Description: Char No. 4 is a whiskey bar & restaurant inspired by a passion for bourbon. The name refers to the practice of aging bourbon in charred new oak barrels, which gives bourbon its characteristic sweet, caramelized flavors and its beautiful amber hue. Char No. 4 features over 150 American whiskeys and serves a menu of American fare with a focus on smoked meat. The American whiskeys are augmented by an extensive list of whiskeys from Europe and beyond as well as a selection of all-bourbon cocktails. Char No. 4 is located in a 19th century row house in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. The design environment takes inspiration from this tradition in its treatment of light, its use of color, and in its nod to the form and construction of whiskey barrels both within the water-jet cut pattern of the steel facade, and in custom designed light fixtures. A field of large cylindrical pendants suffuse the space with a tawny glow that sets a mood of sophisticated conviviality for both drinking and dining.

We were a party of five and one of our party was very late for our reservation. We were still seated which would almost never happen in comparable restaurants in Manhattan. The choice for brunch is relatively short, varied and very difficult to choose because, frankly, I really wanted to try four of the options. In addition to the separate... More

I came here last Sunday for brunch with me and 4 of my friends. I was excited about this place because of the yelp reviews. When I walked in the decor was nice and the bar full of different whiskies that made me excited. When we sat down that is when things changed. Everybody at the table ordered the pre... More

Went for Brunch on Sunday, took 2 standard brunches priced 22 or 24 dollars, not sure. You first get 3 microscopic "beignets", then an egg with a kind of buttermilk bread, a coffee or an other small drink, and that´s it. Wow. Good gross margin for the owner I believe. Ok, nothing was missing, all was written before we ordered,... More

Very loud but charming up front, quieter but utilitarian in the back. The food (Shrimp & Grits), Ribs, Mac n Cheese) was good, but pricy for what it was. The cocktails were good, and just NY pricy. Beer was reasonable. The ribs were a bit unsatisfying, now that I think about it. The other items were fine.

What liquor screams “America” more than some American whiskey? One of the top places to go to enjoy some whiskey, is Char No. 4 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Named after the charred new oak barrels, used for aging bourbon, Char No. 4 offers over 150 American whiskeys. 150! They also have a restaurant, focused on smoked meat and other American fare.  But, I... More

I had very high hopes for this place based on the reviews I have read and my love of all things Bourbon. Maybe my expectations were unrealistic. I would give this place 5 stars for its whiskey/bourbon selection and friendly service, but only 2 stars for the food. It's a nice little neighborhood whiskey bar and small restaurant. I was... Brunch on Smith Street can be insanity, but we happened upon Char No. 4 circa 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and were pleased to find a relatively calm (for brunch) atmosphere. The service was quick, and we can unreservedly recommend the buttermilk pancakes with blueberry sauce (divine!), BBQ brisket hash and hound dog cocktail. I mean, who DOESN'T prefer their... More

Do you like grits? Well , this is the place to try them, cooked with sausage and poached eggs on top. The biggest biscuit I have ever seen with white gravy.,Yummy! Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's plus a great cup of coffee. Dark inside and very crowded.
