"Price even 4 Fairbanks, a bit much"......................

Get here Early 4 Lunch, it's gets packed quickly. That being said, I think I've tried everything at least once over these many years, and must say the soups and sandwiches are good. Fairbanks so needs more eatery's like this. It would take the load off this one and I wouldn't feel so guilty... read more

Make sure you allocate plenty of time if you go around lunch, because Chowder House will be full of people. The sandwiches are great (croissant is a personal fav bread), and the soups are warming and hearty.

Get there right when they open, it fills up fast. Service was quick though. Soup is delicious and the sandwiches are fresh. Would definitely go back.

Looking for a place for a quick bite, we found this place. Also appeared to be a favorite of the military. Between the three of us we had New England chowder, salmon chowder, a grilled cheese sandwich and some bread. I would highly recommend this place to everyone and anyone. The friendly staff was also a plus.

Really liked the soups served. The ingredients are fresh and it was tasty. The establishment is tight not leaving room for large groups. I wouldn't go with more than 6 people. Sandwiches were good. Good variety since you can build a sandwich the way you want it.

We were visiting friends in town and went here for lunch based on their rave reviews. We were less than impressed. Our order was incorrect twice, then the chowder arrived cold, and frankly, bland. Their sandwiches are also rather bland - and not as high-quality of ingredients as you would expect. I did order hot chocolate and it was VERY... More

The thing about Fairbanks is that finding a good lunch restaurant can be difficult. A lot of the "good" (and non-chain) restaurants in town are only open for dinner. In my opinion, the Chowder House is one of the better, non-chain lunch options in Fairbanks. It's really nothing special, and as others have noted, it's kind of expensive for what... More

You can not eat anywhere in Alaska as cheap as you can in the lower 48. But once that got through my head, this place fills you up for the money. The chowder was unique and tasty. Our sandwiches were made to order, the bread was fresh and the condiment flavors played well with the sandwich bread and fillings. And... More

We ordered two bowls of soup and two sandwiches and a cup of soup for the kiddo. We also got two milkshakes and the whole lot cost $45! I almost fell over when she rang me up. It is soup and sandwiches people, not steak and lobster. I know that this is Alaska, but that was outrageously priced. Now the... More

I met some friends for lunch and they suggested Chowder House. I'm not from Fairbanks and I hadn't heard of it and probably wouldn't have stopped if I drove by because it looks tired from the outside, however as I was waiting for my friends I watched people come in and pick up orders; they certainly have a niche. The... More
