I hardly ever leave comments and reviews, but I still cannot shake off yesterday's experience at this place. I have been there before, and decided to take my mom to try their EXCELLENT cream pie. We also had my one year old baby with us, who was pretty happy and well behaved thru the whole yet short visit. When we... More

I went to Sam's Sourdough Cafe on my first day of my recent trip to Fairbanks with a friend who has lived in Fairbanks for years. I had a hankering for breakfast food, and I was not going to a Denny's (nothing against Denny's, though). When we walked into the restaurant, we were a tad hesitant, not knowing if we... More

Nothing special, but solid breakfast joint. Even the breakfast foods without a lot of fresh veggies are not cheap in Fairbanks. $38 w tip for two breakfasts is probably not out of the ordinary in this neck of the woods, but was a bit of a shocker for us. Food was good, traditional breakfast comfort food, but nothing out of... More

I arrived during the busiest part of the evening. This is where the local families eat. They still took good care of me. The food is not fancy, just good size portions. I had the chopped steak with grilled onions and white bean soup instead of salad. The wait staff was friendly and checked on me several times during my... More

Breakfast here is always good. Their entrees aren't fancy, but they hit the spot. The prices are average for Fairbanks and the serving sizes are decent. The servers are generally nice as well.

This place offers standard diner fare, and decent breakfasts, a rarity in this town. If this is close to being as good as it gets (and it is), you know that Fairbanks is not some precious gourmet paradise.

Found these guys in the Lonely Planet guide while we were in Alaska this summer. Sourdough pancakes that taste like my grandmothers. No sugary, fluffy falderall here. Serious cakes with an authentic sourdough bite. Delicious. Sounds touristy, but get a side of the Reindeer sausage to go with them. Really good flavor and a bargain for the North Country. Had... Eat like a local! I'd read in Michener's "Alaska" about the sourdough pancakes the miners ate, so I jumped at the chance to have our last Alaska breakfast at Sam's, located near the UAF campus. It was packed on Sunday morning (and easily handles the crowd), and that's the first good sign. Everyone was getting the sourdough pancakes, that was... More

We had a late breakfast after a long walk and came hungry. This restaurant took care of that with some classic breakfast items! I had an omelet with reindeer sausage and loved it. The kids tried everytihng from sourdough pancakes to corned beef hash. We all left happy.

We came across Sam's via the Fairbanks visitors map. It was very conveniently located, had plenty of seating, the staff was friendly and efficient, the food was excellent. We only had breakfast there, so my review is limited to that.
