Kommen Sie hungrig!

Translation: Come Hungry!! WOW-that's some amazing food! A German treat for the inlaws & ourselves. Our 13-yr-old son, who usually has hollow legs, was full when we left and already trying to figure out when we can go back. The food here is very authentic and well prepared. The portions are huge, and they have an outstanding selection of beers. The establishment is situated in the old train depot, and has been nicely renovated. It is a very pleasant and intimate setting, perfect for a romantic evening.

We are returning customers. This restaurant never disappoints. Amazing dinners, Wiener Schnitzels, Fish and Kottlets, soups and appetizers as close as you can get to German cuisine. The place is always packed (reservations highly recommended) and it goes to show you that people know good food. Service is very attentive and polite. Just like it should be. A great experience... I was first at the restaurant a couple of years ago when my eldest son took his wife and their children and I there for dinner following my twin granddaughters' graduation from The Dare Program at their school. Not that the occasion would matter to anyone reading my review; however, it was a special time for them and for me,... More

My wife and I have spent considerable time in Germany and we love German food. It can be hard to come by stateside, especially with authentic Bavarian menu and preparation. Bavarian Chef delivers. If you love German food, then you will love Bavarian Chef. The portions are enormous and we always get a second meal out of the leftovers. Sharing... More

My wife and me went, after quite a while of not going, and everything was outstanding. Our great surprise is that we actually went on a night of Restaurant Week which offered meals for around 20 dollars. Super meal for a super price! I would recommend calling ahead for a reservation, we did and moved ahead of those waiting without... More

I have been to many German restaurants here in the area, throughout the U.S., and during my six-years living in Germany. This was average. Worth one visit and that is about it. Portions are large but it doesn't make up for the average food and service. Both me and my wife really hoped it would be better since it is... More

My husband and I have always wanted to try the Bavarian Chef in Madison, VA but never have had the opportunity. When we went to Fredericksburg for his birthday, we made reservations at this Bavarian Chef. Being German, he knows authentic German food, and this did not disappoint. Very friendly staff and absolutely delicious food, but beware....Go hungry because you... More

After a day in DC, returned home via historic Fredericksburg and stopped at the Bavarian Chef conveniently located at the Amtrak station. Arriving at the restaurant the umpa music reminded me of Busch Gardens Germany section without the rides. Very German decor one could find in Oberammergau, Munich or Garmisch and waitresses dressed in the familiar attire. Food was delicious,... More

So me and my spouse decided on a whim to go to this restaurant while visiting Fredericksburg. We were very surprised by how good all the food was. The portions were large and the sides are served "family" style so they bring more out, so make sure everyone in your party gets something different so you can try something new.... More
