Fun Atmosphere, Good Food, but Needs Attention

We love this place. It is FUN for us. Service, decor/atmosphere (cozy/quaint), beer, and food...BUT... 1.) Lisa L's from Germany review is spot on, although we do not agree with the grade of "poor" since it is too harsh and better than that. Specifically, while the meat is tender and quality... read more

On a day trip to Fredericksburg, and after a recent vacation to Europe, we stopped in the Bavarian Chef for lunch. It was wonderful! The service was good. The food was delicious and took me back to a small café in the Alps. We had the schweineschnitzel and käsespätzle and of course a Hofbrau Price is very reasonable. Highly recommend... More

On our annual Christmas weekend get-away and wanting something different, I chose this restaurant based on reviews/menu. We were not disappointed! Huge quantities of excellent German food and beer! Warm and inviting ambiance. The only negative is that our waiter brought our food almost immediately after our beers were served, giving us no time to enjoy and chat. Other than... More

We went in w/ a party of 11 and out of all of us, only 2 were happy w/ their meal. My chicken tasted like wine (I got the schnitzel), my sister-in-laws steak was overcooked (she ordered medium rare and it came out well), my nephews chicken tenders were salty, 3 of the kids got the mini burgers and they... I hosted my son's wedding rehearsal dinner here and was not disappointed! They reserved the room in the back and furnished a special menu that gave the guests a choice of a half-dozen different entrees. The food was great and very plentiful. My wife and I took what we did not eat home and had two more meals each from... More

This place is a bit pricey, but you get more than enough to take some home. For a larger party, I believe it is 5 or more, you get to have all of the sides - which are served family style. There is something for everyone. My favorites are the red cabbage and the german potato salad and the green... More

Very nice authentic German food. Like the family style vegetables. The red cabbage is to die for. Be sure to also try the beer sampler.

Bavarian Chef carries an amazing selection of German beers and pilsners, along with a couple of Belgian Ales. And of course they do flights for the undecided. The menu is big and ambitious, the food is good German comfort food with a really good dessert selection. Everyone can find something to like here, but I thought the sauerbraten was particularly...
