Long standing plans to meet an old friend for lunch here. Restaurant week was a bonus. Prix Fixe - 3 courses for $20. Several (tough) choices for 1st, main and dessert. Both started with the beet salad on a bed of greens - lovely. We shared the mains. Both dishes were delicious in their own way. Pork with julienne veg... More

I am giving this two-stars based on the friendliness of all the staff. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in the town of Fredericksburg. Don't let that fool you, this is far from an upscale dining experience. The service was lagging although very friendly and accommodating, the food was completely underwhelming and disappointing. The beet and pistachio salad... More

We had been shopping in Fredericksburg, VA and decided to look for a place to eat on Trip Advisor. We love German food and lived in Germany for 5 years, so we know the real deal when we find it. This was authentic German food and so delicious. We are going back real soon so we can try more things... More

Bavarian Chef's Leberkaese is amazing! Absolutely as good as the Leberkaese that we love in Germany. And at $10, the value is really good. Love the atmosphere there although I wish they would put up actual photos of the beautiful Bavarian countryside on their walls. Overall, most definitely my favorite restaurant in town!

I personally felt it to be somewhat expensive in relation to all the other fine dining restaurants I visited in the downtown Fredericksburg area. I think perhaps I was just there when the Staff was not "totally awake", therefore a few 'small' issues. We were seated in a nice area with a fireplace, and was told by the hostess ',,,,,'... More

I was hesitant to review because, I am not sure how much of my impression is due to me perhaps not caring for German food. We met for lunch. The service was wonderful....we had a very pleasant and friendly waiter. The items I enjoyed were the hot pretzel, homemade applesauce, and a taste of a friend's warm wine (I have... More

We had friends visiting from out of town and the best place to bring them was definitely to the Bavarian Chef! As always, it was loads of fun, genuinely delicious and served with class. Everyone was impressed with their dish and enjoyed the warm welcoming feel of this old German first-class restaurant. Definitely to be visited again - and bring... More

We really enjoy dining at this restaurant. The food and ambiance of this restaurant was stellar. Our waitress, Kim, was fantastic. There are only a couple of issues, that I experienced on New Years eve. We were still working on our appetizers, and dinner came out too quickly. We asked for plain seafood sauce, and received a mayo based sauce... More

We were seated right away in a wonderful table in front of fireplace. Drinks and food were brought very quickly. The quality of the food was great and the amount, although size of order was too much, it was very very good.

We love this place. It is FUN for us. Service, decor/atmosphere (cozy/quaint), beer, and food...BUT... 1.) Lisa L's from Germany review is spot on, although we do not agree with the grade of "poor" since it is too harsh and better than that. Specifically, while the meat is tender and quality good: the sauce is redundant on many dishes. Also--BATHROOMS... More
