A nice stop for locals and visitors alike

Great food, good staff. I wish however there was a way to transplant the entire Madison location to Fredericksburg. The charm is just lost in this location. It's still a great restaurant and worth the visit.

We stopped at the Bavarian Chef on our long drive from South Carolina to Ontario so were looking for something excited to add to the boring day in the car. We selected the Bavarian Chef based on Trip Advisor rankings and once again my fellow reviewers came through for us. The restaurant itself fits the motif to a tee. I... More

I couldn't even wait to finish my dinner before starting this review. I found this place on Trip Advisor during a visit to Fredericksburg and thought it would be worth a try. I am no German food expert, but know what I like when I taste it and WOW! I had the Tuesday special Schweinhockse (I hope that's the correct... More

We stopped for dinner on Sunday evening after a day of sightseeing in the area. Despite what I would have expected to be a prime dinner hour (arrival at about 7) there were only 2 or 3 tables of guests when we entered. We briefly considered not staying but as we had skipped lunch we were both too hungry to... More

Ate with a friend early on a Friday evening. Great decor friendly staff and solid German food with a few specials. I had a schnitzel this a crust of sliced almonds in a strawberry schnapps sauce. Not untypical of the better restaurants I have visited in Germany. The vegetables are again typical German and served family style with red cabbage,... More

Went at 4:30 on a Friday. Ceasars salad had wilted lettuce. Ceasar dressing was horrible but very good raspberry vinegarette. Pork schnitzel breading was ok. Bacon, mushroom, pepper gravy not good. String beans ok but not a do over. Zucchini was mixed with squash and was very good. French fries good. Portions good. Chocolate flour less cake with raspberry center... More

Decided to try this restaurant based on the great reviews. We were not disappointed! My husband and I have been to quite a few German restaurants, including in Germany itself, and this is hands down our favorite. The place is in a renovated old train station and has been beautifully done. The decor and style is very classy and elegant.... More

Went for my birthday dinner, and was not disappointed. Great people, very helpful, and very happy. I love it when people are happy in their jobs. It usually means they are treated well by employers. The food was, as promised, good German food. We had six in our party and everyone liked the dinner. We wanted for nothing. Highly recommended.

I made reservations for Bavarian Chef for a Saturday night, party of 5. When I called to make the reservation, I asked about parking, because it seems parking downtown can be a little tricky. There are plenty of nearby lots that accommodate this restaurant. We chose to eat here because we have lived in Bavaria for several years and loved... More
