We like coming here and decided to have a couple of appetizers which was a very interesting mushroom galette dish in a lovely crust and the other one was a goat cheese bruschetta served with crusted toast ! Both were very good and their house Chianti was also quite nice! Chianti

While the location is a bit strange (located below ground level) the service and food were very good. We especially liked the reasonable pricing on wine by the glass.

Tiny little downstairs bistro with good food and good service. Popular with us locals, but also given a very good review in one of the chi-chi rags.

We stumbled across this quaint little restaurant while out for a walk around town and decided to give it a try. Wow...it was simply delicious! I had the bacon wrapped tilapia & my financ'e had the wild boar sausage bolognese with spaghetti, each paired with a glass of wine from a nice list. And the bread...oh my! Our waitress was... More

Have been eating here 1-2 times a year for several years. food is usually very good but they fall down in some areas like the freshness of their salad greens. As good as most of the food is (and that's what keeps me gong back), the service is consistently poor - indifferent and unenthusiastic.

My husband and I had a date night at Poppy Hill. Glad we stopped there. We started out sitting outside which was nice but decided to move inside. It is quaint inside but has a little musty smell but nothing that detracts from the ambiance and food. The bathroom was very clean a good sign. I ordered the create your... More

The owner was a charming host who kept the kitchen open longer to accommodate our visit with a delightful dinner he calls Sunday Gravy . . . a rich, tomatoey meat sauce with meat balls and pasta that you will remember for a very long time. A wonderful memory and amazing dining!

Food was very good. Not inspired or unique. Dining room was a bit stuffy. AC is a good thing, maybe even and essential thing, in Fredericksburg in the summer.

I'm a local and we dropped in one evening instead of waiting for the more "popular" place across the street. I'll start by saying the food was all amazing. We tried some specials for dinner (salmon) and steak as well as the seafood pasta - all large portions perfectly prepared. Tried various wines which were surprisingly affordable at $5-6/glass. The... We found ourselves unexpectedly in historic downtown Fredericksburg on a Sunday night and were tempted into Poppy Hill by the advertised special of Sunday Gravy. An unusual item to find on a restaurant menu, considering that it takes the better part of a day to cook. First, the good: The wine list is full of good values, including several selections... More
