Does not stand out

The place is quaint, stairs access is a little sketchy for a lady in heels. The inside is dark and devoid of natural light. The tables are too close together. Definitely the place to eat here is the outdoor seating, really has the "people-watching" thing going for this area. we had the... read more

Dined here with my family because of the great reviews. This is your basic regular Italian restaurant, nothing special at all. Our waiter was filling in and wasn't the best. Had to ask for bread while those seated after us were served. The bread was good, but would have been nicer served warm with some Olive oil and balsamic vinegar.... More

I had wanted to try Poppy Hill for several years, because every time I'd walk past, it smelled so amazing I'd feel light-headed. We went for my birthday, earlier this month, and again recently for a night out with friends. I can say, with the voice of a seasoned casual fine-dining server, that this place is amazing, and I feel... More

We tried Poppy Hill for the first time on night one of Restaurant Week (don't miss Restaurant Week in Fredericksburg, VA). We enjoyed their outdoor seating. The tables were a good size and comfortable--as at times outdoor tables are small. We received great service. Shortly after you are seated they bring a basket of yummy dense bread to the table.... This is a small establishment which is great for date night with that someone special. Locally owned. Not a cookie cutter place. I believe they have a weekly menu offering good choices.

Though it takes more then your normal time to get your meal, it is well worth it. This place make all their pasta there so it's fresh. I'd say it is one of the top 3 Italian restaurants I've had the pleasure eating at. One bad note, the outside chairs are cute but not comfortable.

We went on a Sunday evening and sat outside. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed the evening. The food was above average but service was not the best. We waited quite a while for bread and had to ask multiple times for bread. We also had to ask multiple times for drink refills. To top it all off our... More

A nice, cozy, place and good value. The sauce on my pasta was AMAZING, nice and thick, good tomato flavor and rich. The pasta is homemade so a bit thicker and denser than the store bought. A good meal, super waitress, and worth a try.

We were walking around about 7pm looking for a nice place to eat. We decided to sit outside as the main downstairs room was reserved for couples eating before their prom. We ordered scallops and a great small salad. We then had a chicken parm and a scallop with squid ink , homemade pasta. The food was very good. The... More

Though not the highest of ratings, we were pleasantly surprised once we found Poppy's. Located in the lower level (basement) of a century old home, is a delightful Italian themed spot. We enjoyed very good Italian food, and a delightful setting, though cramped, what reminded us of the small restaurants in Italy. All pasta made in house with a few... More
