Does not stand out

The place is quaint, stairs access is a little sketchy for a lady in heels. The inside is dark and devoid of natural light. The tables are too close together. Definitely the place to eat here is the outdoor seating, really has the "people-watching" thing going for this area. we had the... read more

Our dinner here was an expensive disappointment. The restaurant is cozy, but the tables are much too close together. The bread was fresh out of the oven, but too doughy and tasteless except for the salty crust. It took quite some time for our meals to come out of the kitchen. The home made pasta was delicious, but the rest... More

Great homemade pasta !!! Had the Veal Parmigiana it was a real piece of milk fed veal pounded and breaded to perfection served with house made marinara sauce and homemade pasta. Nothing but the best ingredients. The bread was herbed and delicious. This restaurant is located in the basement of an 1813 building and has lots of history as told... More

We decided to go out to eat at the last minute in Fredericksburg and looked a few places in downtown. It was a nice night and we decided to eat Poppy Hill's, taking a sidewalk table. The service was a little bit slow, but we were not in a hurry. The staff is super friendly and the casual, relaxed atmosphere... More

Very bad food. Caesar salad very bland, just lettuce and croutons. I ordered pan-seared scallops with butter truffle sauce. Manager came out and said they were out of scallops and recommended shrimp. Pasta dry and bland.Shrimp over cooked. Literally no taste. I ordered ice tea. Waitress apologized that they were out of ice tea and had no tea bags to... More

Dined here with my family because of the great reviews. This is your basic regular Italian restaurant, nothing special at all. Our waiter was filling in and wasn't the best. Had to ask for bread while those seated after us were served. The bread was good, but would have been nicer served warm with some Olive oil and balsamic vinegar.... More

I had wanted to try Poppy Hill for several years, because every time I'd walk past, it smelled so amazing I'd feel light-headed. We went for my birthday, earlier this month, and again recently for a night out with friends. I can say, with the voice of a seasoned casual fine-dining server, that this place is amazing, and I feel... More

We tried Poppy Hill for the first time on night one of Restaurant Week (don't miss Restaurant Week in Fredericksburg, VA). We enjoyed their outdoor seating. The tables were a good size and comfortable--as at times outdoor tables are small. We received great service. Shortly after you are seated they bring a basket of yummy dense bread to the table.... This is a small establishment which is great for date night with that someone special. Locally owned. Not a cookie cutter place. I believe they have a weekly menu offering good choices.

Though it takes more then your normal time to get your meal, it is well worth it. This place make all their pasta there so it's fresh. I'd say it is one of the top 3 Italian restaurants I've had the pleasure eating at. One bad note, the outside chairs are cute but not comfortable.
