I don't drink. Thus, I generally don't hang out in bars (or in pubs). So, when a colleague suggested lunch at Matt Murphy's Pub, I was skeptical at first, given that most pubs only feature comfort foods and beer. But I'm glad my colleague persuaded me-- this little restaurant is far more than just a pub; it had a menu... More

Friendly bartenders and regulars. No TV, which is unusual in bars these days, but kind of refreshing. Authentic Irish food on the menu, homemade ketchup. Atmosphere is dark and pub-like, as it should be. A great place.

We stopped in to try the brunch at Murphy's. We were very positively surprised. Try the sweet cream on porridge for a very tasty take on oatmeal. Try the delicately thin and NOT overcooked omellette with smoked salmon for something savory. Coffee was good, service was quick. Only one slight surprise/downside: cash only, no credit cards. We would definitely go... More

tucked in the middle of a strip of stores, including a Dunkin Donuts (which provides the free wi-fi), is this little gem of a pub. Clean and fresh decorations make it different from the start. Finding Old Speckled Hen on tap was a rarity! The lamb burger was amazing - full of fat and flavour - just like it should... More

I was taken here for a birthday celebration and was BEYOND impressed. Although this is a "Pub" (with exceptional Guinness) the food is high quality and authentic and the atmosphere warm and welcoming, yet classy. Our waitress was attentive, yet never tried to rush our courses or our conversations. I had salmon on a bead of lentils and curried cauliflower... More

We used to live in the Brookline neighborhood nine years ago and always enjoyed the pub food and beer. We were back recently and the food was even better. This is not chicken wings and hamburgers but a lamb steak burger that melted in your mouth and the fresh plump mussels that my wife had. The food has gotten better... More

We've been going here for years. Many tings haven't changed at all--soda bread, fish'n'chips. It's a very relaxed atmosphere--there's energy, but not chaos. You can find what you want whatever mood you're in--full-course gastro-pub dinners, or a smaller meal of just "bar bites," or just order a sandwich. Or just sit at the bar and have a beer. ...the most... More

A friend of mine had some business in Brookline. We wanted to find something great, but casual. We found it at Matt Murphy's. When I called to make a reservation, I knew that this was a real pub - great food reviews aside. The person on the other line sounded real Irish (I'm half, and have spent a great deal... More

We went to Matt Murphy's for our wedding anniversary while staying in Brookline. We were attracted by the selection of local craft beers, and the menu which includes numerous seafood dishes. We started with an appetizer off the bar plate menu featuring salt cod and potatoes whipped with loads of butter and cream - PURE BLISS! My husband had the... More

We've been regulars at Matt Murphy's for years. It's a great local pub where they're pouring our drinks before we've even ordered. Service is especially good when Siobhan, the owner is around - she really knows how to make you feel welcome. Can be a bit more haphazard the rest of the time, and some of our friends balk at...
