Old Fashioned Deli

Love the breakfast, but better get there early on the weekends or you'll have a long wait. The sandwiches are good, but some of the dinners are just OK. However, it has an old-style deli atmosphere, the service is good, and the wait staff is pleasant.

I had eaten in Zaftigs twice during two days visit to Boston last week. Great cooking. Love the potato pancakes! Consider a long wait line outside the restaurant. On the second visit waiting line was 40 mins. I would come back anyway.

What a delicious brunch menu! I went with a big group and we all ordered something different, and of course sampled each other's. Everything was absolutely fantastic and the service was great. Definitely stop by if you don't mind a wait.

My wife and I came here for breakfast and we couldn't have been happier splitting the EMPIRE EGGS - Two poached eggs, spinach, smoked salmon on potato pancakes, hollandaise... YUM! as well as the CHALLAH FRENCH TOAST - With maple syrup and bananas... so fluffy! Great fun.

The nice atmosphere and the good service does not make up for the bad food. Have been there 3 times because I though I was missing something with the wonderful reviews but it was still disappointing time after time.

This place has great food, breakfast foods anytime, and my favorite is the hit banana bread. Soulful 40s background music resonates pleasant memories of the songs my Dad used to sing to me.

My son loves deli food. We walked from the BU campus to the restaurant in about 15 minutes. There was a short wait even though the restaurant was packed. The waiter came right away and served us right away. My son had a sampler platter with blintzes, latkes, kugel and knishes. He was in heaven, my husband ordered the brisket,... More

The Sunday morning wait was about an hour, but there was plenty to do around the neighborhood. The coffee was nothing special, but the complimentary bagel chips with cream cheese were great. I got the homemade hash, my friend the lox benedict. The has was good, but not my personal favorite. My friend said his dish was amazing and it... More

Very heavy hand with salting the soups...to the point of indelible. OTOH, the Empire eggs (poached, spinach leaves, on top of potato pancakes) are a great brunch choice and I've enjoyed medium burgers there many times.

We came to Brookline to celebrate my father's 100th birthday. Family members from Chicago, Texas, and Massachusetts at dozens of meals here over three days and all were wonderful. Best was the service, the flexibility of servers dealing with people walking in after others had been served. "Just pull up another chair;" then, "Looks like you'll need another table." "Here's...
