Very Good Chinese Food

Golden Temple is a large Chinese restaurant in Washington Square. The food is very good, though the service was extremely slow and not especially friendly. One tip: Try the wok seared Yukon potatoes side dish. It may not be part of a typical Chinese meal, but this is a terrific side dish.

There are quite a few restaurants in Coolidge Corner and Washington Square; if looking for Chinese this restaurant (here for past 50 years) is excellent--as good now as when I was last in Brookline decades ago. Metered Street parking may be available on Beacon St or side streets, but if not they do have valet parking. Various noodle dishes and... More

First Chinese food I have had in Cambridge I actually liked! Delivery was quick (I mean super speedy compared to a lot of places!) the vegetable udon was wow fantastic! Really loved it! I wasn't too crazy about the spring rolls, they were too greasy for my taste but they weren't bad. The vegetable vermicelli noodles were also really good!... More

Have been here several times, with meals of varying quality. Once, my landlady actually treated all of her tenants to dinner here -- there was a buffet-style service and the food was incredibly good. Since then, I've been here with friends and on one occasion, came here on a date. The food was okay but not great.

Greasy, bland, pedestrian Chinese food. This restaurant is like an ageing actor who just doesn't know when he/she is no longer relevant, nor that it is time to retire.

We were a party of four and were taken right on time based on an OpenTable.com reservation. We ordered appetizers and house special Mai Tais'. The Golden Temple Ribs are expensive but worth the price if you are Chinese Spare Rib lover. They are double cut and always nicely prepared. Another rock star was the Claims in Black Bean Sauce... I made a reservation on Open Table, and when my party of three got there, they said that they needed to see my Open Table confirmation number. Once I fumbled in the dark, crowded, lobby for my phone, my email, and then my confirmation number, they said that they didn't have it in THEIR records. Sorry. But a Christmas Miracle... More

It's a fairly standard, "old school" Chinese restaurant, heavier on the trappings and lighter on the authenticity of the food than more modern places. It's where my grandparents would have taken me back in the day. Still, it serves up fairly good, if American-Chinese fare -- with the smile of owners and staff who know well their regulars -- and... Old fashioned American style Chinese Food done right. If you are 60 years old plus the cuisine at Golden Temple is the only Chinese food that was available when you started eating out many years ago. It is now hard to find as authentic Chinese cuisine dominates the market. Fortunately Golden Temple does an excellent job recreating these dishes. The... More
