A hidden Treasure in Savannah

If you can spot it, the Bayou Cafe is a great place for an evening. Between great Cajun food, good service, and nightly live music, you're not going to find much better.

We found this little jam while walking on River street. We had the bucket of steamed oyster. It was so good that we went back the next day to have it again (before we leave for the airport). Had we found it earlier we probably will end up having dinner there every night. It was cheap and great food.

Ate and drank twice there Feb 2015. Its a great place. Just of River St in the Historical District. A mix of local seafood and traditional pub food. Have a couple local beers and almost every night live music. Great view of River. Very casual/relaxed atmosphere

I go there regularly every Tuesday night for jam night, which is an open mic night. Since I'm a regular there, I've gotten to know the staff there and Mary is very friendly, Tom who works behind the bar is great and remembers what you order. The great Eric Culberson band (including the talented Jonathan Hill & Larry Duff) is... More

Im shocked about the high ratings from this place since this was not our experience. We stopped in for lunch mid week. The bartender was only one in the place and he mentioned he was also cooking. Seemed like a decent guy but we showed have left at that point. The sides (cole slaw and potato salad) had no flavor... More

I was looking for shrimp and grits. This place has a good price but there's a reason. Don't be cheap. Spend a few extra bucks and get your shrimp and grits else where.

This is one of the best values on River Street. Yes, the "decor" for lack of a better term leaves a lot to be desired. It is sort of a dive. Well, not sort of, it is. That being said, you probably won't find a better deal for raw oysters, beer, or mixed drinks on River Street. The oysters were... More

Stopped in for lunch on a recent tour of Savannah. Bayou Cafe has it all: great service, great food, great location. Everything is homemade, right down to the chips. Kids devoured their breaded shrimp and raved, hubby downed blackened fish and was pleased with the beer choices - high praise as he works in a brewery, and he is picky... More

What a disappointment! We walked in hoping to get fresh steamed oysters. It was seat yourself, which was fine. After we were seated & the waitress brought our drinks, we were totally ignored. She passed by us several times & not once asked us if we were ready to order. We took our business elsewhere.

Sometimes when you’re visiting a city with Savannah’s broad appeal, it’s hard to figure out exactly which restaurant will give you at least one true gastro-pic of a town, and looking over Savannah’s multitude of offerings, we puzzled a while before deciding on the Bayou Café for lunch. We liked that it was located along the river, that there was... More
