I live in Savannah and love to take my guest here for the best taste of southern cuisine. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice and you meet lots of wonderful people as you share the tables with other visitors. Do no get discourage by the waiting to get in long line is worth the wait.

Don't worry about the line out the door. Well worth the wait. Outstanding southern food! At least 25 dishes served family style...each one better than the last.

We booked 3 nights there last week, only to find out that the famous restaurant there was closed for the month. The manager apologized and gave us a $50 gift certificate to eat somewhere else. They also apologized for not listing the closure on their website. Besides this, we found ourselves locked out when we arrived. We advised them that... More

This place is fantastic! Best place to eat ever! I have never had more DELICIOUS FOOD than HERE! One member of our group waited in line for this place before it even opened. We made it back from our shopping trip just in time to get into the restaurant. It's family-styled sit down, where you sit in a table of... More

Pluses: excellent fried chicken, cute ambience, tasty vegetable dishes Minuses: long queues, tough meat in beef stew & only open lunchtime This restaurant won't appeal to everyone. It's like a school canteen atmosphere almost. I didn't find it particularly a relaxing lunch. Prices are fair but I wouldn't put it on definite To Do list

As one of the consistantly mentioned must experience restaurants in Savannah, we knew we had to give it a try. The doors open at 11, but you will want to line up earlier or you'll have a long wait. The house is an old boarding house where Mrs. Wilkes began serving quality southern comfort food to the boarders and the... More

Yes, you do have to be there "in line" very early, but you get to meet some very warm individuals while waiting..... and the wait is well worth it once you enter. Great southern cooking parexcellence

This had so much food that you could go here to sample all the Southern cooking there is. there must have been at least 20 dishes to sample--and I think more. It was all yummy. We arrived about 40 minutes before they opened but because it was late October, we still were in the first seating. It is such a... More

So this place has great food and not a lot of seating but it's still worth the wait. Showed up 30 minutes before they opened and the line was already wrapped around the building! You need to show up at least 1.5 hours to get in early. I waited in line for about 2.5 hours and with a pregnant wife... More

One of the most unusual experiences we have had at a restaurant in a long time - and a great one. The line is always long, but by the time you get in you will be among new friends. They have open seating, and a flat rate of $18. When they start bringing the platters of food to your table,... More
