Can't go to Savannah and not go to Mrs. Wilkes

open 11-2pm Mon-Fri only. We got in line at 10 am...(50 people ahead of us) so we got in the first seating. Great experience. Thanksgiving on steroids is how I describe it.

Wonderful family style food. Big bowls and platters passed around and refilled if needed. Prepare to make some new friends because they fill up all the tables. The fried chicken is to die for. I could hardly walk back to my hotel afterwards. Its been several years since I ate there but I LOVED it!!

Arrive early. Hours are between 10-2 pm only. We arrived around 11 and is was a 1.5 hour wait. They do not accept credit cards. Cash only. You're seated at a dining room table and numerous bowls of food are waiting for you. Food is passed around the table like it is Thanksgiving and you may eat until you are... More

Best food in Savannah! Definitely get there early because the line is super long, but well worth the wait! You get right in, sit right down to a southern soul food feast! The women who serve your food are so so so sweet and amazing! Definitely will return on our next trip to Savannah!!

Really long wait, 1.5 hours, but worth it once for the experience! Yummy southern food and kind folk. By the time you sit, you've made friends with those in line around you which makes the meal even more fun!

Open only for lunch, your meal is served family style with a small group of new friends. Everyone is very nice and half of the fun is getting to know your table-mates. The staff is very accommodating and the food is soooooo good with a lot of choices. The fried chicken is especially good and is rated one of the... More

Went with a tour group and didn't have a wait like others. The food was delish. Especially liked the pork barbecue fried chicken collard greens creamed corn and the banana pudding. Sweet tea and coffee were also good. About 30 different dishes were served to our group seated table Everyone throughly enjoyed the food. Worth the wait if you have... More

We knew we had to get to Mrs. Wilkes early. We went on a Friday and arrived at 9:40 am and there were about 10 people already in line. Little by little the line grew behind us and we were happy we arrived early because by 10:30 am it was all the way at the end of the street. The... More

Was it the best food I had on this trip? No, but everything was delicious. Was it worth the wait? Depends on your schedule. We got there today at 1:45, were the last in line and were seated at 2:35. Maybe coming later will save you some time. Even though the advertised closing time is 2:00, we didn't feel as... More

Mrs. Wilkes is a true experience. As you stand in line for an hour plus you will meet people from all over the world. You will have a true Southern gastronomic experience with ten of your new best friends and see the hardest working crew working the kitchen.
