Better than expected- pleasant surprise

My wife and I were strolling the waterfront and decided to have lunch- the place I really wanted to go wasn't serving lunch and many others were slammed- people waiting outside to get in. We came to Bernie's and there wasn't a line...I was concerned, thinking: "Why isn't this place busy ?" We... read more

The overall reviews of Bernie's are right on. The seafood is better than average. We enjoyed oysters and shrimp. They were average as far as other places on River Street. But, to be fair, it is pretty hard to "prepare" raw oysters in a special way. Or shrimp even. We found the service a bit slow, probably due to always... More

We had great margaritas and steamed spiced shrimp at Bernie's. The best place to sit for us was the bar, where one can truly enjoy the full character of the area. Lemon drop shots were also delicious! Peggy was a terrific bartender. She made the best drinks and made your time there quite fun. We highly recommend Bernie's for fun... More

Roy is the BEST bartender on River St. hands down! I've always wanted to go in but you can smell a burned grease smell from outside. I didn't want the smell in my hair or clothing and would always walk by. One night in December the smell wasn't bad and we decided to go in. Roy was the bartender and... More

If you love good oysters and shrimp you've got to try Bernie's on River Street. Yes, it's a tourist area, but the food is really good and the prices are reasonable. We had excellent oysters on the half shell, boiled local shrimp and some nice, large cray fish (steamed seafood platter). Delicious. The draft beers are also quite good. Service... More

This is a nice little oyster bar. The restaurant is rather small with limited seating, but the atmosphere, wait staff and food was great. I ordered the low country boil with both shrimp and crawfish. The food was well seasoned and the seafood was delicious. We also ordered the nachos as an appetizer and a cup of the chili. Both... More

We stopped in for some oysters and they were very good. This restaurant is really more a bar atmoshere with sports on the TV's, and they were very loud. If you want good oysters and don't mind the atmosphere - well worth it!

What a great place for our family to gather & enjoy a good meal! Loved the rustic brick & casual atmosphere & I can't say enough about the hospitable service. The food was outstanding and plentiful! I wish we lived closer, I'd make this a regular favorite.

Very rude, we were 5 people and I have a walker, we sat down on a table for four and accommodated myself at the head of the table, and was told very rudely that I couldn't do that so I asked the guy where could we sit and he did not answer just stood there, so we left. Apparently they... More

We have been here a couple times. If you like seafood this is the place to go. My wife tried crawfish for the first time here and loved them. They have a large selection there. We will definitely go back there when we get a chance for sure!! Awesome!!
