Good Eastern European Food and Drinks

We visited on a Saturday afternoon as part of a food tour of Fell's Point. Service was very slow although we had pre-ordered. Sample of foods was good, with excellent pierogies and other fare. Worth a try. Hopefully the beer selection will actually be in stock (they have some Eastern European... read more

The Ze Mean Bean Café is a small restaurant in the Fell's Point district of Baltimore that serves ethnic Slavic dishes. We went for the Sunday brunch. The menu includes Benedict dishes, omelets, appetizers and a selection of sandwiches. The portions are adequate and well worth the price. The cafe's atmosphere is nothing special, cute and comfortable. My wife had... More

What fun place. Sit at the bar during happy hour and enjoy the $.50 pierogies. Try the beet mimosa! Try the spaetzel and cabbage wrapped beef. Can't wait to go back.

This was my fourth trip to the restaurant, and it's been good and consistent every time. The pierogies are fabulous, and the stuffed cabbage rolls are very good. There is also a pretty good selection of salads and some other interesting Eastern European fare. Their wine selection isn't what it used to be - just a few selections in each... More

Having grown up with a Polish brother -n-law, missed those meals his mother and sisters use to make. Ze Mean brought those memories back. I guess the special ingredients... "LOVE" was missing it was good but the polish flair i still missed.

This place is a real gem in Baltimore. We were looking for an easy place to settle down for brunch on a beautiful Sunday morning in October. This spot looked great -- a few outdoor tables for sunning and a lovely intimate setting inside. Definitely one of the best brunches I have ever had -pancakes to die for, bacon like... More

My mother was a terrific Polish cook. I especially loved her pierogis. The pierogis at Ze Mean Bean are better than Mom's! (Sorry Mom!) The kielbasa had a smokey-flavor that I enjoyed more than the garlicky version I'm used to. I don't know much about Hungarian goulash, but it was very tasty and I enjoyed it. I never cared that... Small restaurant in Baltimore with great service and delicious food. My wife and I both tried the Slavic Sampler (potato pancake, holupki, kielbasi, and three pierogi's). My wife even had some Croatian white wine which she really liked. I want to go back and try the lamb chops. The only negative is having to find metered parking.

Visited this small Fells Point restaurant during our 10th anniversary, in August 2014. We found it online, and were quite pleased with the service, decor, and food. The borscht was nicely done, as were the perogis and shrimp and scallop risotto. You could definitely taste the mushrooms in the risotto.
