New find, old city

We were a little hesitant when friends suggested downtown for din after the Preakness, but we went with the flow. City Cafe is not easy to find with your GPS. We call our Shirley because she is surely right. This time it was a left rather than a right. Had to wait a while at the bar for our... read more

I try hard to like city cafe. The new restaurant layout is great. The beer menu has improved. But the food is still just so-so. Yesterday I had fish tacos. The fish was clearly cooked much earlier and just placed on the plate. It was cold, chewy and bland. My colleague had a pasta, also over cooked. They also now... More

You can go out for a meal, or you can dine. Here we dined! Every bite of every meal was absolute perfection. Our server, Dani, was professionally attentive, and knew the menu well. No one was disappointed with her suggestions. We were even fortunate enough to meet their gifted chef, Michael. Our party of five was out for a birthday... More

I had lunch at the City Cafe with two other people. For three lunch entrees, one order of fries and three regular coffees, we spent $60 before the tip. The service was excellent, but that is about the best thing I can say. This was a very expensive and mediocre lunch. The two other diners ordered the grilled cheese and... More

My friend I enjoyed a delightful brunch here. Love the clean lines and many little nooks for seating. Smartly we arrived at 10:30. It became crowded by 11:15. The server was polite, attentive without driving us crazy and the coffee good and plentiful. Never rushed, I knew it was going to be good when they asked degree of poach on... More

We had not been at the Café prior to this visit, but after this first visit it was obvious we will have to return. Both my wife and I had a hamburger which ranked as one of the best I have tasted. She agreed. The menu was extensive with one item looking as appealing as the next including the breakfast... More

This iteration of City Café has one of the best Veggieburgers sampled on both the West Coast and east Coast of the USA. Great wine selection and other food on the menu is very good, too but primarily Kudos for building a great vegieburger.

3 pleasant, lively bar and seating areas were open to choose from, each having many groups of mainly young professionals. Good drink prices kept the clientele happy. Wine choices were limited, but mostly well selected and varied. Appetizers were uninspired, but well portioned. The list of appetizers did not change over a 3 week period of review. Service in the... My wife and I had an early dinner prior to attending a BSO concert at the Meyerhof. We were looking for light fare, so we shared an order of a half-dozen fried oysters with blue cheese sauce. These were among the best we have ever had - a crispy outside and a tasty moist inside, and the dressing was a... More

My wife and I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant and the friendly staff. We went 2 times in 3 days for dinner (we were staying nearby). At the first meal, my wife said the pork shoulder stroganoff she had was likely the best dish she has ever had in a restaurant. I had the steak frites, and it... More
