I'm not a very adventurous eater, and I hadn't had Indian food until I was convinced to try this place. You should either go with a person familiar with Indian food or at least have an idea of what you want to eat because the menus don't go into great detail about ingredients. However, the food is delicious! My only... More

This is a Mount Vernon staple for very good Indian food. And the owner aims to please when it comes to ingredients and spicing. Consistently yummie.

Pretty good spread and they kept it stocked. Food only warm and my favorite chicken tikka was very dry today.

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time last night and we enjoyed every minute! I just happened to pick this place off Google maps on a whim. We wanted to have a nice night out. This place is in the basement, so it can be easy to miss if you aren't paying attention. The inside is cozy... More

When we arrived (7;00 p.m.) the place was almost full. Good sign of things to come. Granted even though there's a limited amount of seating, everything goes smoothly because it's self evident from the owner, wait staff and kitchen work together and you can sense the pride they share with all their guests; from the couple who were last to... I've been coming here for years. I love the meat samosas, mixed grill, and the rice pudding. They make a good gold margarita too believe it or not

We went to buffet lunch on Saturday prior to going to the Walters. We liked the Akbar in Columbia, so we tried this one. The restaurant is downstairs from street level and you immediately feel like you are in a basement. The carpets, furnishing and tables are all in need or replacement. What once was elegant is now just shabby.... More

Recently visited Akbar Restaurant during a recent convention weekend. I ordered the mixed grill, which is a dish I frequently order in other restaurants. The portions were generous - and really, really good. My daughter ordered Chicken Korma, again a dish we order frequently, It was excellent. We had our favorite, Rasmalai (sp) for desert. This is a dish we... More
