Nice atmosphere, great food!! Prompt service, and the price was very reasonable. Don't miss this gem of a restaurant! My only complaint is that the waiters cleared each person's dish as they finished instead of waiting for everyone at the table to finish their meal, which is rather impolite.

The food was delicious, the service was wonderful and the suggestions of various apps, dinners and desserts was fabulous! Would like to go again and again and again...

While in Baltimore my cousin took me to The Helmand for the Best Lamb I have ever had. The owner, a cousin of Mr. Karzai said that the reason is the lamb is very fresh and comes from over in Columbia, MD. The Chowpan salad is unbelievable and I have not been able to copy it. Kaddo Borawini (baby pumpkin... More

Ethnic restaurant interesting that the guy did not know that it is a province in Afghanistan. I had the lamb, I gather it was done thAfghan way. Small chunks of lamb with mushrooms and spinach. It was good but I prefer lamb done the mediterranan way, The lamb taste is a bit muted, lamb purists might be disappointed. Serive abouve... More

What can one say about The Helmand. The food is always terrific and the service, attentive and gracious. This is Baltimore's premier affordable restaurant for subcontinent Asian food, and especially vegetarian and vegan friendly. Oh and the carnivores love it too, If you haven't been, you are missing a treat!

Reservation suggested. Three of us went there without reservation but they were very friendly and fit us in. Very nice ambiance. The veteran staff are from Afghanistan and the younger staff are decendants with Pashtun accents. The food was very good. Some of the menu items were spicy which I liked. Worth the experience.

We had never eaten Afghan food and we found the Helmand 1 block from the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore. We started off with Anjan Borwani Pan-fried eggplant seasoned with fresh tomatoes spice baked and served on yogurt garlic sauce. My wife had Kabuli, Pallow (Afghan style rice) baked with chunks of lamb tenderloin, raisins and glazed julienne of carrots.... More

You must try the pumpkin appetizer. Weird sounding, I know, but trust me. There was an extensive menu of vegetarian options, and all three of us chose a vegetarian dish. I had the "sampler" and it was chock full of great variety. Try the green "secret sauce" on your rice. It's amazing. Our server was not super friendly, but he... More

We noticed Helmand while perusing the May flower show in Mt. Vernon. It had the look of Helmand in Cambridge, Mass - one of our favorite restaurants in our home area. Great fresh and flavorful food, super service, fine cocktails, all for a reasonable price. I remarked to our server how much the restaurant reminded us of Helmand in Cambridge. Turns... More
