My wife and I recently visited Baltimore for one night and chose Charleston Restaurant based on the excellent reviews and awards and we were not disappointed. They offer a prix fixe tasting menu with 3 to 6 courses. After discussion with our waiter who was extremely professional and helpful, we both elected the 3 course menu without the wine pairing.... We ate here last night and were largely disappointed. The best parts of the experience: the soups and the service. The lobster soup was simply exquisite, and the French onion soup was wonderful, rich and brothy, although much thicker than is typical. Lobster was tender and sweet. The waitstaff made sure we wanted for nothing (well, except flavor). The duck... More

Okay I'm biased. With all due respect to Buck Showalter, John Harbaugh---Co-owners Chef Nancy Wolfe and Tony Foreman Wine Director are perennial winners in Baltimore. Charleston is regarded as the premier restaurant in Baltimore. Located in the chic Harbor East, less than five minute walk from the new Baltimore Four Seasons and the Under Armor flagship store. Fine dining second... More

When my daughter said that we would be eating out on Thanksgiving during our visit to Baltimore, I was totally in favor, and when she announced it would be at the Charleston, I was doubly in favor. This is certainly a special occasion restaurant, as reflected by the wonderful food and ambiance, and, of course, the prices, which are steep.... More

You go here for the experience. The food was delicious but as expected for the price. The ambience was quite good and going there as a college student was a little shocker. Everyone was very nice and courteous. Food was good, but not overly so. Again, I'm not sure if it's worth the price. The experience, however, is. Get the... More

This is truly a special occasion venue. The staff is very professional and yet warm in welcoming you. You can choose from 3-4 courses...all cooked to perfection. Start with the lobster soup...fabulous...then had the dusted oysters....1st rate....and my main was the turbot with risotto....a winner! Finish we the flourless chocolate cake with a pistachio crisp and you gave a perfect... More

The food is quite good. Not the best in the world. But maybe the best in Baltimore -- if high-end food is your thing. The chef is obviously talented, and the food reflects an low-country influence. The comfortable dining room is inhabited by well-healed retired clientele, and the wait staff competent and knowledgeable. My wife and I ordered the six-course... More

Good food, stingy portions, outrageous prices. We ordered the six to split because we wanted to try six different things on the tasting menu but they brought us the three each (which of course is more money). The busboy was very attentive but we felt out of place anyway. We had the wine tasting with the meal, and the pouring... More

Food, wine, service, and ambiance, all were outstanding. The dishes that the chef selected for us (we tried their five course fixed price menu) were innovative and each provided a new taste experience. Wines were a bit pricey, but the attentive and friendly service made up for it!

A superb restaurant. Not to be missed. This is an elegant but not snobbish establishment. Guests are made to feel very welcome, and the service is impeccable without being intrusive. Deep carpets and generously spaced tables means that the experience is quiet and intimate, and leisurely. We were there for over three hours, and the evening flew. The food, as... More
