Wonderful Food, Disappointing Service

We grew up in Maryland but now live out of town. We came to Baltimore for a visit and our first priority was to get some crabs. We had family visiting so we decided to try Captain James! Food was excellent! We had Cream of Crab, Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, and Steamers to start. All were delicious. For entrees we had NY Strip, Mediterranean Salmon and the Twin Lobster Tails - again all were fantastic. Our server Joe made the evening - attentive, personable, and very friendly. We'll... More

I searched many restaurants using Trip Advisor and because of the comments for Captain James we picked it and were not disappointed at all. The Seafood Nachos were excellent. Generous portion and a great way to start off the meal. Seafood Stew was tasty and the Crab Cakes did not have much filler at all and are a good choice.... More

The entire time you are eating the owner is hawk-eying you and his staff. Come on man...that's uncomfortable for your staff and the patrons. Trust your staff to do a good job. Could not wait to get out of there. My second time and my last.

Stopped here for dinner on our way through Baltimore to points South. My daughter really wanted crab. She had the salad with seafood, and mini-crab cakes. Enjoyed both, but RAVED over the crabcakes. Not too much breading, very tasty. Not a seafood lover myself, I had the garden salad with grilled chicken and a few sides. Nothing special, but a... More

Went there for a dinner on a Monday nite. Kinda disappointed in the fact they didn't have many choices for fresh fish. Fresh fish of the day was scallops? The only other 2 dishes they offered were salmon, which my daughter got and it was delicious! Flounder was the only other dish. Two of us got the crabcakes. They were... More

I am not really a seafood person but I could find something just as good of quality at this place for myself. The waiter we had was very nice and made the night that much better, the atmosphere was fun and friendly. I recommend this place also since it is away from all the craziness of the harbor.

To me a great crab house is more than just great crabs. Captain James fits the bill. We had a family get together and sat out on the deck on the water. Besides crabs there are some great sides and fun drinks. The staff were great and it feels like a neighborhood hangout. So glad we found Captain James. Definitely... More

Get the crab cakes they are worth the wait. Take the water taxi to the restaurant and cross the street to enjoy a sit down meal with great entree's and service.

Was told when I called that a reservation wouldn't be needed... WRONG! Nothing like waiting over an hour to be seated when dining with a 2 year old... Then, when complaint rendered, the same person who answered the phone had a more than condescending attitude... our server didn't even acknowledge our baby girl, which I found a little more tha...
