After reading a recommendation of this bakery, I took the opportunity to visit Blue Scorcher while in Astoria. I went for the baked goods, and picked 5 different items to try. I have to say, I'm impressed on a few levels. Each of my choices was excellent: I started w: a potato nut cinnamon role, which looked good in the... More

I ordered a mocha and blueberry cheese danish, so sweet I couldn't finish either one. If u like sugar thus is the place to go. If you like balanced flavor and good service go elsewhere.

The aroma of baked bread and fresh herbs greets you at the door - makes you feel like you're coming home. I had the beet salad with gorgonzola cheese and warm hazle nuts tossed with a tangy vinegarette - large and satisfying - one of the best salads I've ever had. The bread, especially the wheat tartine and the raisin... More

We had coffee and an amazing cardamom, almond pastry for breakfast. Great gathering place for locals as well as visitors. Always a favorite!

Blue Scorcher has a definite hippie vibe, with organic-oriented foods and flaky servers. I went there twice on my recent trip. The bread and pastries were nice and fresh, and I appreciated that the coffee cake wasn't overly sweet (you taste the berries, not the sugar). However, both times the nice counter person had no idea what flavors the various... More

We ordered 2 drinks and 2 pastries. They offered to warm the pastries and we enthusiastically said yes. We sat down and waited and waited for our pastries. We went back to the register to inquire and got a blank look. They apparently found our pastries which were barely warm anymore.

The portions here were generous and all the food was fresh. The staff were really friendly and service was quick. The cafe is quite large so it was easy to get a table.

Quality, healthful, and meat free breakfast and lunch fare. The dining room is comfortable, and there is a very nice play area for smaller children. Sandwiches were a bit more than we wanted to spend (10 dollars) and the pastries and baked goods were all in the 3-6 dollar range. Although the food was wonderful, it leans very much in... More

I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to food so I try to find eclectic, tasty, well-seasoned food anywhere I go. I came to this cafe/restaurant this morning for breakfast as had the most delicious sandwich and great coffee. There are also lots of tempting pastries that I might pick up for the road!

We only had time to grab some pastries to go. The bear claw was beautifully crafted and tasted great - Not too sweet. I actually ate the oatcake a few days later and LOVED it. It looks dry, but was somewhat soft and chewy in the center- A great snack with coffee or tea on the road.
