Not your average place and every small town deserves a place where one can get something beyond ordinary. Yep, the food is not rushed. Anyone walking into the place should be immediately struck by the diminutive uniqueness of the place and expect atypical fare. It's good, it's different, certainly worth at least 1 try from even a more conservative consumer.

I don’t get it. Not sure why some like the COLUMBIAN CAFÉ in Astoria. I’ve eaten there several times over the last twenty years and always leave thinking it wasn’t even a mediocre dining experience. Giving it the benefit of doubt, and maybe it’s an off day or I’m just being too picky, I give it another try (I live... More

I'm sorry you've not had the desired experience at the Columbian. I will tell you that our floors and work spaces are thoroughly cleaned and bleached twice daily. We always pass health inspection with no problems. It's true this is an old building with not much updating so there is a lot of history and wear. As to the quality... More

Don't let the looks fool you-- this place is excellent. Tables are provided house baked bread with four savory jams. Each one was better than the last, but the jalapeno jelly was truly inspired. We ordered off the specials board and enjoyed every bite downed with fresh squeezed juice. They're doing everything right. I'll definitely dine here again my next... More

It looks like a hole in the wall, but you'll have one of the best meals ever. They use fresh ingredients and make their own pasta fresh daily. Great fresh fish that will bring you back time and time again. You won't be disappointed.

We live in the county, and appreciate the availability of a wide variety of very satisfying eateries with talented imaginative cooks. Remember, this locale was a favorite of James Beard, for its wonderful fresh raw material. Going to the Columbian invariably is very enjoyable for us. I'm stuck on the "Mercy Mercy", where my food fate gleefully is turned over... More

Quirky and possibly a little off putting for the stick up the butt crowd. If you're patient and relaxed and have cash (no plastic here) you will be rewarded with the best freshest and innovative grub in town. A fiercely loyal following of locals dine here regularly.

We really enjoyed our visit to the Columbian Cafe. Don't expect "normal" and you will really enjoy it. The food was GREAT. Marko's sign says it all. "Be Nice or Leave" Everyone was nice.

But if you are in a hurry, go elsewhere! Everything is made to order. No refrigerated hash browns that taste like "fridge", no Smucker's pre packaged Jellies, no bread that turns to tasteless dust when toasted. This place is funky and fantastic. If you want fast and ordinary go to the Pig and Pancake. But if you are willing to... More

We were wowed by our lunches. Their home-brand spicy jellies were very tasty. Loved their toasted bread and the egg dishes we had. Don't expect a fast food experience. Be prepared to wait for your food to be prepared and cooked. Coffee drinks were excellent. This is a "slow food" meal. We all would definitely return for another meal in... More

We have been going to the Columbian Cafe for 20 years...every time we visit Astoria. This time was no exception, and the food was great, as usual. I ordered the Bond Street Breakfast, the oldest item on the menu. My wife was nor particularly surprised...that's what I order every time we're there..!! With their toasted bread and some incredible jellies,... More
