We live in the county, and to us it's a treat to go there. We love the food and the non-rubber-stamp personalities involved in the operation. Today I had the "Mercy Mercy", which simply is letting the chef surprise you, with minimal guidance to him re how peppery you prefer it & any aversions. If you go in there with... more

I was also told how great the Columbian was- we too were served toast (which was good) and weird jellies while we waited 45 minutes for a simple breakfast during non-peak hours. The food came so late, we had to take it to go because we had an appointment- and we had come there in time to have a "leisurely... more

Have wanted to go here for some years after reading about this place going back almost 20 years -- cute little place, etc. The three booths were full so we sat at one of the two tables out on the sidewalk. Menus came quick enough but before we could get any water we were already talking about leaving. One always... more

Walk into the Columbian Cafe and you'll notice a diner-style counter with seating for 10 and 5 booths behind that...it's very small. The size and less-than-charming decor might fool the average patron, but those who have done their research about places to visit in Astoria know that dining at the Columbian Cafe is an experience that should not be missed.... more

After spending some time in Astoria yesterday we chose the Columbian Cafe for dinner. No reservations, we just walked in and were asked if we wanted to sit at a booth or at the bar and watch the chef Uriah cook, we chose the bar. We were served a basket of very fresh, homemade bread and we enjoyed all of... more

My husband and I first read about the café in Best Places; tried it and loved it. Move forward three years later. We walked in the cafe with friends; it was crowded, the cook (probably owner) asked if we could come back in 30-minutes so he could “clear his head to wrap his hands around our meal to better serve... more

I can’t wait to go back to Astoria. My mom - who was visiting from Maine - and I had lunch at the Columbian Cafe last week. A dashing young lad with sleeve tattoos and a slick 50’s rockabilly do served up the best homemade bread with southern style pepper jellies. My favorites were the red cayenne and the green... more

Astoria really is a wonderful, beautiful place to live, and I can only think that this is the reason we have such a top notch chef in such a small town. Uriah's Columbia Cafe has been here 30 years. Wow. Their duck confit is the best entree I've had ever in Oregon. Each meal starts with bread and 3 jellies... more

The Columbian Cafe 1114 Marine Drive next to the movie theater is not to be missed! In my opinion, Uriah Hulsey is one of the world's top chefs. I met him early one morning on a Brew Club bus trip down the Oregon coast. Everyone but me went to the Wet Dog Brewery - I'd had there beers and didn't... more
