Great Beer; Food OK

We reviewed the beer list at the German Schnitzel Haus (GSH, as they abbreviate it on their menu) and found many German beers on draft, offering pilsners, wheats, and darks. That is not easy to find in Jacksonville. The food offerings as well looked like it came off a menu in Germany, with many of... read more

I love German Restaurants. I have been to Germany and grew up with family that is from germany. I always ask for seconds on red cabbage and spaetzle. I could only choke down one bite on each. It was a shame to throw all the food out but it was nor palatable. I never have had bad food at a... More

I am a German lady from north Germany. My daughter loves German food and it was her birthday. I have never had this kind of slop. The cucumber salad was just sliced cucumbers. No salt, vinegar-nothing. The Spaetzle were overcooked spiral noodles with sauer creme slopped on them. OMG!!! The service was slow. Take my advice. STAY AWAY. My little... More

My family dined here for the first time Saturday evening. Although the restaurant was not full from the moment we walked in service was very slow. The hostess left us standing several minutes than told to sit down and wait although frankly no visible rush seemed to be occurring. That set the pattern for the entire meal - drinks and... More

We used to come to this restaurant quite a bit and drove over an hour to get here because the German food was really good. We go to Germany quite often and our friends who eat here with us lived there for several years so we love to have the opportunity to reminisce with wonderful food. That was then and... More

Went for lunch recently and the food has really gone down hill. It was prepared at another time and just re-heated. The bratwurst was disgusting and the sauerkraut tasted like it was out of a can. I can no longer recommend the place unless you're just going for the bar. Cannot believe a professional chef would let that cr_p leave... More

We've been eating here for a long time. We have lived and eaten in Germany on and off for many years and always found the food here to be about as close to the real thing as one could get in the U.S. The move to the new location was great from a size standpoint, but they lost the brick... More

Jacksonville does not have a lot of German restaurants, but if you do want to partake of some traditional German cooking this is the place to visit. Myself and two friends decided to have lunch here (first time) and we were more than pleased with our meals. We split an appetizer sampler of sausages which were very good and more... More

We visited January 24. Food was delicious!! It was not the fake, pretend German food -- it is real German recipes. We had many menu items: liver wurst, stroganoff, the bratwurst sampler plate, schnitzel, fried bologna, spaetzle, potato cakes, dessert to die for. Most exciting was German beer on draft and Nurnburger sausages - for real. Wish we lived in... More

I took my family here and we all loved it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful! I had the Sauerbraten, very tasty. I highly recommend giving it a try.
