Joseph's Steakhouse is located next to Val-Kill. Eleanor Roosevelt's National Site in Historic Hyde Park. Joseph Steakhouse was once part of Val-Kill and was called Val-Kill Station. Val-Kill Station from 1933 to 1949 servered as a Tea Room restaurant serving a Tea Luncheon to Royal families & travlers visting the Roosevelts.
Besides our great steaks and seafood, Joseph Steakhouse still continues the tea luncheon tradition by reservation only in the tea room. Available daily for Groups of 25 or more.

Best Kept Secret for Brunch in Hyde Park

Went to Joseph's last Sunday for Brunch. Since the brunch menu isn't posted online, I wasn't sure what to expect but knew, from having dinner there, that they would not disappoint. The 19.95 brunch turned out to a great value. Brunch began with fresh fruit and a basket of warm breads. While the... read more

Jospeph's used to do a ladies tea on a more regular basis and it was always lovely. While I understand that is not the case anymore, it can be arranged for a group. The restaurant is a festive place for dinner or brunch. And, the holiday tea that I attended yesterday was a great way to connect with family and... More

We enjoyed a relaxed dinner here after a busy day sight-seeing the attractions that Hyde Park has to offer. We shared a steak for 2 and could not eat it all - despite how good it was. Excellent meal accompanied by their recommended wine, served by friendly and enthusiastic staff. Highly recommended

Had Thanksgiving dinner at Joseph's and as with prior visits, it was great. Since we will be doing our Turkey this weekend when family arrives, Frank opted for a steak, which was perfectly cooked and I had the Thanksgiving ham dinner which was also very good. I appreciated that they did a sweet potato switch for me. We also enjoy... More

We made our 2nd visit to Joseph's figuring the 1st time was an off night. We were wrong. Don't know where all the 5 stars come from but we went in September and last week to give it another chance. The steak each time was blah. We did not have any of the "signature steaks" but none the less if... More

Regarding the food, everything was excellent from the appetizers to the side dishes. The steak was the equal of anything you'd find n New York City and the short ribs were the best we ever had anywhere. The 2PM to 3PM hour on Sundays is normally when the staff takes a breather between brunch and dinner. That notwithstanding, Michael, our... More

Thank so much for the nice comments. I love the Short Ribs also, I am a meat and potato guy and the gravy is outstanding. I have always enjoyed going to New York City and dine in one of the many great Steakhouse. So your comment on the New York City quality of steaks is what we what to bring... More

I was in Poughkeepsie on business and found this restaurant. What a terrific place! The building looks nondescript but is lovely inside and was part of Eleanor Roosevelt's estate. We had a drink at the bar before dinner and we were warmly greeted by the owner, Joseph. He gave us the history of the building and took us on a... More

We were in the Hudson Valley for a weekend and I made reservations at Joseph's based on the excellent reviews I read on line. I was apprehensive when we arrived and I saw the modest building in an area well off the beaten path. As soon as we entered we were greeted by Joseph, and escorted to our table. The... More

Thank you for a wonderful review. Thank you for taking some candy I gained a few Halloween pounds. We are a little off the beaten path and the building is almost a 100 years old build by Eleanor Roosevelt. You are right the building charm is in the inside, it's like a person it what inside that really matters. When... More

We had a big party for my mother in laws 85th birthday at this fine establishment. Joseph personally made sure that everything went smoothly. A family owned restaurant with great food. All of us had a terrific time. The chocolate peanut butter explosion for dessert was outstanding.
