Joseph's Steakhouse is located next to Val-Kill. Eleanor Roosevelt's National Site in Historic Hyde Park. Joseph Steakhouse was once part of Val-Kill and was called Val-Kill Station. Val-Kill Station from 1933 to 1949 servered as a Tea Room restaurant serving a Tea Luncheon to Royal families & travlers visting the Roosevelts. Besides our great steaks and seafood, Joseph Steakhouse still continues the tea luncheon tradition by reservation only in the tea room. Available daily for Groups of 25 or more.

We tried this steakhouse during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week and was impressed with the menu offerings. The service was excellent and the food was very good. This place is a little bit off the beaten path, that is, the main highway, and it still is one of the best steakhouses around. Recently went back and discovered it was restaurant week, so we ordered from the fixe prix menu. We both had steak beef barely soup; upgraded to the chopped salad; and for entree one had the... This is one of the best steaks dinners we have had. If you happen to catch one of the dinner theater nights, you will have a blast.

Just came from a disappointing meal at Joseph's. The staff could not have been more attentive or nicer, but the food was average at best. Maybe we should have stuck with steak and potatoes? We tried prime rib, lobster tail, stuffed clams, and sauerbraten. The sauerbraten was inedible and the lobster tough and tasteless. The prime rib was just okay.... More

This is a review from a previous dining experience at this country eating establishment. I must say, I was much impressed their preparation of food. I was provided with a steak that was properly prepared. Their soup du jour was the most flavorful squash soup I've tasted in a long time. Their steak was prepared accordingly and it was excellent.... Jeannette, these are nice comments. Their soup du jour was the most flavorful squash soup I've tasted in a long time. Their steak was prepared accordingly and it was excellent. Food was prepared beautifully. Attentiveness of service was excellent. Now these are also 5 star comments but looking at all your previous reviews 4 star is your highest. Look out... More

My boyfriend and I came here on a recommendation of friend, and we couldn't of been happier! We got to Josephs and it was snowing terribly, we went in and were greeted by Joseph himself such a sweet man! so warm and gracious, soon after Michael came over to the bar and took our drink orders. Michael was so amazing!... More

I do thank you for your nice comments of Excellent Food & Excellent Service. Which are some of most the important things when dinning out other than cleanliness. I would like to give you a little insight on the rustic/run down/odd décor, although I disagree on the run down part . The building dates back to the late 20's with... More

Always consistent, fresh, cooked right, and delicious. If you are in the mood for a nice, juicy steak, this is the place to be! Our personal favorites are the porterhouse and the ribeye....but there are other great options as well. The service is nice, and the ambiance is very pleasant...A must try!

A quiet, intimate place with great history and great food. Impeccable service, comparable to an experience at the nearby CIA. The mussels in white wine and garlic herb broth are sweet, tender, aromatic and delightful. But this is a steakhouse. 8oz. Filet Mignon cooked to perfection with steamed veggies and garlic mashed spuds. One of the best steaks I've eaten.... More

Went for Sunday Brunch, and was extremely happy not only with the food quality, but the value. There were 3 main choices: Breakfast oriented(4 course), lunch oriented(5 course), and combo breakfast/lunch(6 course). Michael was wonderful with his meal suggestions, tour of the restaurant, and overall service. As part of the meal, we had assorted bread and danishes, followed by a... More
