Tavern with Atmosphere

We went to Sweeney's Tavern at the Farnsworth House. It is an old tavern decorated with costumes and props from the movie "Gettysburg." Staff is dressed in period clothing. Our waitress was nice and polite, but not outgoing; we had no conversation, but I guess that's ok :) The food was good. I... read more

Dinner started off fine. The garden was comfortable and not crowded. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful with wine choices. We had the game pie and baked ham, onion soup and apple pie. The food is OK but bland. The game pie didn't have any discernible seasoning. When we got to dessert, we decided to share. Upon ordering, our... More

We had dinner reservations for a Friday night at 6:30 in the dining room. After reading the reviews we decided to try this place. It was not overcrowded or overbooked. Attire: It seems nice casual is just fine for the dining room. I wore sundress and my boyfriend wore a polo shirt and nice jeans. The food was absolutely fantastic!... More

Outside of the Farnsworth they presented a program called "In Their Shoes" which showed how the soldiers lived and ate in the camps during the war. After an interesting presentation by a Civil War soldier we were served hamburger, beans, mac & cheese, etc. Very Interesting.

We've eaten here several times over the years and always enjoy the Tavern. Today I had a salad with turkey and ham, which was very tasty. My spouse had the hot roast beef sandwich, which he really enjoyed. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and was perfect for a hot summer afternoon.

Food was cold. Service was terrible. One of the most disappointing and overpriced experiences that I have ever had.

The Farnsworth Inn was wonderful. All of the servers are dressed in costumes from the 1800s, the interior furnishings are reminiscent of the period. And Even better, the food was great.

The food was just ok. The service was barely ok, but we were seated outside in a lovely area that had a water feature built to contain a little stream. The weather and the friends we were with are what made it a pleasant evening, the food wasn't bad but wasn't memorable. I had the crab cake sandwich, my husband... More

We always go to the Farnsworth House Tavern when visiting Gettysburg. Great food, cozy and historical location, FANTASTIC staff. My traveling companion had the Fish and Chips that was on special, and she still talks about it. I had the Chicken Pot Pie and it is quite possibly my favorite meal. I've had it probably 20 times, and every time... More
