Great Neighborhood restaurant on South St.

Small, quaint authentic restaurant on South Street. BYOB. Cash only. Food was excellent. Grilled octopus was wonderful as was the bass as an entree. The Sunday Tasting Menu looked great- would have to come back for it!

Had dinner with 4 business associates at Pumpkin. Service was friendly and attentive from the server and the manager who stopped to chat. We had grilled octopus and foi Gras for appetizers and really good black bass and sea bass for mains. Desert was pot de creme. Brought our own pinot noir as it is byob. We found the little... More

Small restaurant, but quite frankly, we have been in much tighter places in Philly. I would say it is warm and comfortable. The BYOB is such a plus. I love that we can bring our wine and enjoy our meal and walk out without breaking the bank. The food is wonderfully prepared, delicious and thoroughly enjoyable. Fantastic service. All plates... I found Pumpkin looking for somewhere to go for Halloween. The food was artistically presented, and professionally served. Bonus points for BYO policy! This is a special place, worth the trek through the dicey neighborhood.

Very small restaurant. First being a BYOB is a real plus, only taking cash not so much. Overall food and service was excellent. Will certainly return.

This little gem on South St. in Philadelphia is worth a visit but bring cash and BYOB. BYOB helps keep the cost down but plan to spend $30+ for an entree. The place sits about 20 so best to get a reservation. The food is well prepared and presented. I had the lamb shank, which was the special for the... More

A recent Sunday dinner was great. We did not realize it was prix fixe only on Sundays, but it made selections much easier (and cheaper). And since it's BYOB, it's even more reasonable. Seating just 26 lucky diners, we scored the window table. Our server was very friendly and competent, aided by another server when our courses arrived (we were... More

Pumpkin is a Philly delight. In a former residential rowhouse, it seats at most 30, so reservations are a must. And, due to quirky Philly liquor laws it's BYOB (so bring your own wine) and like a lot of Philly's smaller eateries, it's cash only, so make sure your wallet holds about $70-$75 per person with tip and dessert. That... More

Promoted as using local ingredients with a constantly evolving menu, the limited menu didn't have anything additional other than what is posted on the website (other than that night's substitutions of a Spanish mackerel for the skate, and an almond cake for the claffouti). There was limited evidence of any in-season or local produce in their August menu (i.e. escargots,... More

My husband and I did the 5 course tasting menu on Sunday evening, a pretty good value for $40, especially since you bring your own wine. The server suggested we order both dishes as some courses had 2 choices, and that way to taste everything. Wonderful suggestion! All courses were fresh and tasty. Especially loved the whipped goat's milk cheese... More
