Not like the real thing

Finding mcgillins is easy if you hang out in alleys. I had an early dinner there and found it to be noisy, even though it was not very busy. The shepherds pie was something less than mediocre and consistent with the rest of the experience. The Guinness was warm and had 3 times the usual head for... read more

My family and I stopped by for a bite to eat for lunch during our visit to Philly. The food was great, the service was quick, and the price was very reasonable! I totally recommend this place. I will definitely stop by again during my next visit!

Read about if on the site and wanted to experience a old local establishment. Must see in Philly! We stumbled upon an Irish Whiskey tasting there and it was amazing. The owner greeted us, manager took care of us and Emar from Dublin, representing Tullamore DEW was fantastic! Thanks to everyone there!

How can you NOT visit the oldest continually operated tavern in Philadelphia? Of course, right? You have to visit. First opened in 1860, located on Drury Street, which is not much more than a wide alley, it has all the charm of a English Pub. An Irish Tap Room and 19th century tavern all wrapped into one. My fiance and... More

I visited for the history- oldest ale house in Philadelphia. We just stopped to have a drink. The man at the door was great and explained how it all worked, which was great because it was crowded and dark. We found a seat, ordered our beers, and enjoyed the atmosphere. If I'm in Philadelphia again, I'd go back and try... More

We have been exploring Philadelphia on a weekly basis as our daughter is participating in the Philadelphia Girl's Choir this year. My husband wanted to check out McGillin's because he saw them featured on the Drinking Made Easy show back in 2010. He loves the old town pub feel that's rich in history so that pretty much sealed the deal... More

I recently visited Philadelphia with my daughter while she was there for business. I decided to spend the day doing some shopping when I accidentally came across this gem for lunch. It was a cold and rainy day and I order an onion soup and a glass of wine. It was incredibly delicious and very inexpensive. I enjoyed it so... More

While staying in Philidelphia for my daughters gymnastics competition we asked a local where was good for pub food. She referred us to McGilligans, and I have to say it was good food on a budget. Out total bill was $30.00 with two beers, an appetizer, and two dinners. We ordered the chicken nachos and we eat the whole plate,... More

McGillins' best feature is that they are not stingy with when their upstairs bar is open, like every other place is. Most places don't staff their secondary bars other than during peak hours on weekends, meaning that during other busy times, we are all crammed in like sardines in a can while the large, comfortable extra bar sits empty and... Just a great place for a fun time and a real pub atmosphere. The mussels are great but we are not convinced on the cheese steak.
