Classic go-to place for drinks and fun

If you're in the area, you have to visit McGillin's. Staff is always good, and drinks are always tasty. Tried a few of their seasonal pumpkin drinks and was very pleased. We also had the chicken nachos as a happy hour snack and enjoyed them - generous portions.

We wandered here on a recent trip to Philly. Not easy to find since it is located on a side alleyway...but well worth the search. It was a weeknight but jam packed....still got a seat pretty quickly. Very cool/historic/interesting interior (you can spend the whole time just looking at all the memorabilia all over the walls/rafters, etc.) Huge selection of... More

Do not be put off by the dumpster-lined alley you walk down to get to McGillin's. Inside is a boisterous classic shot-and-a-beer joint, filled – I think always – with shot-and-a-beer type people. And all having fun. The place was full when we were there for happy hour on a Saturday night, but not overly full – as the bartender... More

Full bar and plenty of beer to choose from. Super nice old tavern. All the food we ordered was nicely done. Plenty of seating on first floor, additional bar and seating on second level. No brainer!

Stopped by here with some co workers recently. It was fun and casual with very friendly servers. We went for dinner and it was very loud, so if you are looking for a place to talk and enjoy food, not the best place, but if you want some loud music it will be good. The food was very cheap and... Tucked away in a little alley just south of Macy's McGillin's has been here since the late nineteenth century. We arrived just after opening at 11 for lunch on the Saturday before Christmas. Loved the vintage feel and festive decorations. It sooned filled up with a happy intergenerational crowd. Our sandwiches were casually served in baskets, but the crab cakes... More

We tried this place during a Christmas visit to Philly. It's an old pub/restaurant with a lot of character that has a good beer selection and decent pub grub. We went on a Friday after work hours. It was packed and VERY loud. Because the music is so loud the crowd talks over it and raises the overall noise level.... More

Ed: Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to leave a review. We do tend to get crowded on Fridays after work. If you're ever back in Philly, you might enjoy stopping by for lunch, mid-afternoon or earlier in the week when things are quieter. The crowd tends to get younger (& louder) as the evening gets older. Happy... More

This is my favorite bar in Philly! Great local crowd and it's been around since 1860 — making it the oldest continuously operating tavern in Philadelphia! the place is a Museum with all old Philadelphia signage. The drinks are reasonable but the food is extremely cheap and very good quality! I honestly don't know how they do it with their... More

Looking for a place to get a beer and happened on this place down an alley. It was totally packed on both floors with after work holiday fun. We sat upstairs and drank local craft beer and ate onion rings and potato, skins. It was all good. Other food looked good as well. Waitress was very friendly and had good knowledge... More
