Good But Not Great

I really want to like this restaurant more but there is always some element that takes away from my dining experience when I have eaten there. My last meal was pretty typical, soup and a pasta dish. Both were fine, not bad, but certainly not exceptional. Which would be fine except the service can... read more

My 1st note is as a disclaimer - this was a serendipitous visit with friends on New Years' Eve - which of course is the worst night to go out. The food was okay, but the very poor service overshadowed what was an otherwise lovely evening. You'd think that a table of 4 that were clearly drinking and ordering 2... More

Noisy, expensive Italian center city restaurant. Tonight ordered Insalata Formaggi which was supposed to have cheeses, walnuts and pears, but had virtually no cheese or walnuts, and beets instead of pears. The spaghetti was supposed to come with "lump crab" meat, which amounted to 3 or 4 pieces of crab so small that you had to search for them. This... More

On a weeknight, I went with friends to Girasole because of its proximity to an event we attended on Broad St. This was my first visit, and I won't rush back. The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet, since the restaurant was almost empty. I understand why. The food was good, but undistinguished, and the prices were very inflated for what... More

Bought a discount voucher through Travelzoo to try this restaurant in Center City Philadelphia. Went on a weeknight with a friend and found it easily. Walked in and seated immediately even though I called for a reservation; plenty of open tables. Did not like the ambiance or design of the restaurant at all. Very small and no real private areas.... I have walked by this places million times, both at their former Licust Street location and their current place on Pine St. I'm glad I finally tried it. The food here is fresh and well made. Gnocchi was a stand out. Wonderful tuna carpaccio appetizer. It is not cheap, but quite good.

Great little Italian spot in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. The salmon was to die for! Tried the homemade ice cream and ricotta cheesecake for dessert, both very tasty.

I defy anyone to find a better pasta or Carpaccio anywhere this side of NYC. I do not understand some of the reviews regarding the food. It simply does not get much better than this. Simple, light and delicious can be applied to each dish of pasta (fresh or, my favorite, Dececco). Everything is made with tremendous care. Thanks Girasole!

My friend and I stopped here one evening before a play. Earlier that day (around lunch), I called to make reservation and despite restaurant being open for lunch, no one answered phone. I did eventually make a reservation via open table. The place was not busy at all. The hostess, Michelle, also was the waitress for the few occupied tables... More

The food was good, but it was so cold in the place that we rushed through our meal. We asked to have the air turned down, and it was for about five minutes. It is a must to bring a sweater. The servers were nice and the service was excellent--thankfully, so that we could eat and run. We had planned... More
