Dry

When my sister was in town we tried both Pat's and Geno's. One from each. Thought Geno's was dry and had a lot of bread. I liked it better than Pat's though. She preferred Geno's. I think it's fine to bring a tourist, but I imagine there are better cheese steaks in this city. At least I hope... read more

The Pat and Geno's "rivalry" is just something that EVERY tourist must decide for themselves. If nothing else, to get the experience of how to properly order a cheese steak (cue Seinfeld Soup Nazi comparison). Familiarize yourself with the menu while on line, and get it together, because the line WILL move quickly. Have your cash ready (CASH ONLY, PEOPLE),... More

I thought the food here was very good. I think they definitely live up to the hype. I haven't tried Pat's but this place was very good.

Hard bread, bland meat, little meat, overwhelmed by the onions, 10 dollars too high of a price and 4 dollars for regular sized price, and separate lines for the subs and fries/drinks, no in door seating, NO RESTROOM, parking was horrible so I had to park illegally inside the alley, workers were rude as well as bland like they're meat,..... I haven't been to Philly since the 1980 Army-Navy game, and in the ensuing years, the food channels have evolved. Regularly, different shows have an episode on Geno's or Pat's. I had some time to kill waiting for my flight out, so with the temperature down at 14 degrees and a 25 mph wind, I decided to give them a... More

You certainly don't go to Geno's (or Pat's) for romantic ambience . . . but this place (and Pat's across the street) gives you the comfort food that almost anyone (except vegans, vegetarians, and cholesterol-conscious souls) can't resist. We will always remember sitting at the picnic table eating Whiz fries at midnight (over a decade ago). We were surprised to... More

Like the food, atmosphere and people. A great place to sit or stand outdoors and enjoy South Philly. If you are a people watcher and want good Philly steaks, then this is the place for you, your date or the entire family.

The arguments will never end as to which is better - Geno's? or Pat's? I'm partial to Geno's and have been for a long time. It's a great place to visit just to get a taste of South Philly.
