Great Breakfast!

Went here while staying at Courtyard Marriott to avoid the over priced hotel breakfast buffet. Food at Down Home Diner was great across the board and staff were very nice and efficient. Good variety & good food. Breakfast all day & truly "down home" cooking. Fun place in Reading Market, open on Sunday (a lot of places there are closed Sun).

I only give this restaurant one "star" because you can't give zero. I could overlook the dingy decor and slow service, but the food is terrible, some even inedible! This is one of the few places in Reading Market Terminal open past 6 pm. It SOUNDS like good home cooking. It is NOT good! I tried to order a burger,... More

A friend and I went for dinner and wish we hadn't. The server was indifferent. However, the food was awful. I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables. I can't tell you how the vegetables tasted as I don't eat carrots or broccoli. The mashed potatoes were seasoned with some sort of hot sauce and we're not edible. The... More

Nice start to the day. Nice size portions. I had an egg cheese sandwich with scrapple and a tomato juice for $10 not including tip. I will probably go back again tomorrow.

Decent, good value food with prompt service in a no-frills diner-style setting. I had a turkey club which was generously filled. Watch out for the skewers that hold the bulging halves of the sandwich together though - I managed to jab myself in the chin and draw blood - there again I am English and can't quite manage without a... The Down Home Diner was a perfect place for our early breakfast before a long day of sight-seeing. The options on the menu were pretty standard diner food. The place gets crowded, so get there early. Everything we ordered was excellent. The service was attentive. Prices were reasonable for a downtown establishment. If you're near the Reading Terminal Market, give... More

Two adults and one child went there for lunch last week. I just got my credit card bill today. Uh-oh. Somebody there increased the tip amount and the total. Great food. Good service. I would gladly go there again, just be sure to pay cash at any merchant in the Reading Terminal Market!

Although the advertise breakfast served all day the truth was it was not very fresh. Over cooked biscuit very dry. Scrapple was marginal. Might have been just an off night. Service was good.
