Old fashioned hot turkey, stuffing, potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. Yum! Can't wait to come back for great food.

We got in late that evening via Amtrak, so there were not that many options available to eat around center city. We found this nice home style restaurant and boy were we impressed. The food was delicious, freshly made/breaded and service was great! We were so impressed that we went back for breakfast the next morning. I fully recommend the... More

Reading Terminal Market is a spectacular assortment of great food and diner style restaurants. Scrapple, a Philly specialty, available at a variety of places. Down Home Diner has the best biscuits I've ever had with our delicious breakfasts. Great atmosphere and service.

We ate here after the reading market was closed and the diner was very quiet. Had a cheesesteak which was a new meal for us and had to be tried whilst in Philly. It was a little greasy but very nice although I can't compare it to another. Good value, typical diner interesting decor. Would eat there again.

Was in Philadelphia with wife and two friends. On Sunday, we walked over to the Reading Terminal Market looking for a late breakfast. A couple of the people were looking for eggs, so we ate here. While the food was good (I had the apple pancakes, yum), we will never go back. The servers here are atrocious. It took 30... More

We tried the Down Home Diner as a change of pace from the hotel restaurant and the local IHOP. Our waitress was wonderful - very quick and efficient. We thought the breakfast food prices were a tad overpriced. Also, in the dining section away from the counter seating, it was rather crammed if you sat at a freestanding table rather... More

Everything we ordered was bad. The roast turkey dinner was salt laden. The accompanying mashed potatoes were virtually inedible due to the amount of black pepper in them. Blueberry pancakes were dry and crumbly. Mac and cheese looked and tasted like it had been sitting around all day. Don't bother.

but it's not everybody's favorite place - it is the quietest, least crowded spot in the Reading Terminal Market however. There are many, many food choices in Reading Terminal but the Down Home Diner is off to the side and it offers a mixture of traditional diner choices with lots of regional offerings not common to Philadelphia like 'po boys',... Upon arriving here and reading the menu and being promised that all food is fresh and stays true to its farm to table concept, I was disappointed. I ordered the pecan crusted catfish with collard greens and baked beans. Not only did the catfish taste like it was frozen, but it was not pecan crusted or even dusted. It tasted... More
