Tasty breakfast at a reasonable price

We ate breakfast at the Dutch Eating Place all 4 mornings of our stay in Philadelphia. There is only counter seating available. We did not have to wait for seats, but if you find yourself in line it is worth the wait. The waitresses were cheerful and friendly, the food was delicious and the... read more

This is a counter-service place in the Reading Terminal Market. I had chicken pot pie which is essentially chicken and dumpling soup with savory pie crust pieces in place of dumplings. The veggies were rough cut like my German grandmother prepared and perfectly done. The chicken was as stewing hen done perfectly and the broth very tasty. The meal was... More

Walking around the Market around much time every single place was busy. We ended up at this place by coincidence. The staff was very friendly and the food was very good and fresh. Now as we are getting close to Thanksgiving I decided to eat the Turkey sandwich and it was delicious. I highly recommend it. The only bad part... More

They move customers in and out in this joint! I ordered and my food was placed in front of me within minutes. I ordered the apple cinnamon french toast, turkey bacon and orange juice. Everything was delicious. My only complaint? The french toast had no hint of apple. BUt not an issue, it was still great!!!

The Dutch Eating place serves a whole menu of comfort food. The high point was the apple dumplings. These were wonderful. The Dutch Eating Place is located in Reading Market but it is not too hard to find. The service was wonderful. Everyone there seemed to enjoy their work. The prices weren't bad either.

Friends from the uk recommended this place if we visited philladelphia. We went the first morning and the French toast was fantastic and the home made jelly was out of this world. The food and the staff was so good we went back the 2nd day and this time had the pancakes - was not disappointed - only shame we... More

Grabbed lunch to go before the rush and was greeted by a smiling cashier before I even decided to eat there. Came back after perusing my other options and got a burger special. Took a short wait to cook but I was happy my food was being cooked to order. It was delicious! The bun was so yeasty and fresh,... More

I'm not sure what draws me to this place, but I almost look forward to morning meetings in the city as an excuse to go here. Very good food at great prices.

We were lucky enough to find two open seats so we decided to try their breakfast. My wife had the french toast which was well prepared and I tried the eggs and scrapple. service was quick, but the food only average. And I don't think I will need to try scapple again.

We hadn't eaten all day and wanted something quick and simple at Reading Market. The place is inviting, friendly staff and soda fountain style bar stools and counters readily available even on Friday evening. We ordered the turkey dinners which they said were real mashed potatoes and turkey. The turkey was real--the potatoes appeared to be also, but they used... More
