I grew up in a very Italian home. If we were having pasta and sauce, the sauce was homemade and had been on the stove for 4 hours before the meal. I've tried a lot of Italian places in multiple cities, and this is the only one I've found that compares. I had the lasagna and my date had the... More

During our short stay in Philly, I'm sorry we went to this place since there were so many other choices that would have been better. Our hotel concierge recommended this place. We told him about our experience afterwards, and he felt bad. My fettuccini alfredo was really disappointing. Broccoli rabe was overcooked, that was a real bummer because there was... More

Fantastic--they seat you in a seemingly century old room, mostly with local families from the neighborhoods in South Philadelphia. Great waiter, no nonsense, got the drinks and wine to the table pronto. Good size portions, all tasty.

We had Sunday lunch at Ralph's. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs; my wife had veal parmesan. Both meals were enormous. I didn't try any of hers, as I had my hands full with mine. The sauce was excellent, very much like my Italian grandmother taught me to make. I also liked the meatballs. I think they were a combination of... More

The food was very good...it was very crowded, we were seated on the 3rd floor which wasn't ideal for my 82 year old mother...the service was excellent though.

I have eaten at Ralph's several times over the past several years, and although I try various Italian standards, I always gravitate back to the Mussels. I prefer the red gravy. It has a wonderful garlic and basil undertone that make the heaping bowl of fresh and succulent mollusks almost breath taking. Now, I just get salad, bread and mussels,... More

My husband and I were taken here to celebrate our Anniversary by my parents. Reservations are a must as it's very small and intimate inside and gets busy! There were four of us dining that night. All of us absolutely raved about our meals, along with one appetizer and dessert.(We had two chicken dishes and two veal dishes) In spite... More

Not sure why people rave about this place. It is average old school Italian, mostly southern with lots of tomato sauce. Roasted peppers were bland; olive oil mediocre. The venue is small and can get loud. The food is OK. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about. The service was fine and efficient, though a bit brusque. The... More

OK...someone at another Italian bistro down the block denigrated Ralphs as 'a meatball joint' . I thought about that when I visited Ralphs the next night. Sitting in the charmless over bright first floor room with all the charm of a bus station...I decided that the critic was right but wrong. In business since 1900, and for a good reason.... More

I was told to eat here and it was great advice. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. The martini was the best I had. Not fruity, strong and tasty. The food was great. The surroundings were not noisy but lively conversation. Lauren, our waitress was great and very attentive. I wish the bread had been warm, but that... More
