Oldest restaurant in the USA

Great atmosphere, lots of locals, quick service, very friendly. Food portions were large and lots of locals boxed up the extra. Food was good and hot and our only gripe was sitting under the aggressive air conditioning. Book at the weekends.

Went there with another couple for first time last week! Old school Italian atmosphere and dinner was good! A couple things..... Espresso served in a coffee cup, no homemade desserts, and totally not restaurants fault but a couple next to us screaming across room frequently to another table! This place is good and is pretty neat to read about the... More

Got a table by accident and it was wonderful! Small quaint and excellent food. Walked right in without a reservation which was a blessing, everyone else had to wait. Service was excellent, food was even better. My wife had lasagna and it was the best I've ever had, lite fluffy yet full of flavor. I had the chicken Napoleon, not... More

The floor tiles have stayed the same since 1900 and the quality and taste of their "red" sauce has conquered the time too. Not to be missed. Some wine, laughter, friends and Ralph's food and Philly looks pretty good.

Set in the Italian market, this is classic Italian food. I had the Spaghetti and Meatballs. It was wonderful. It was rich and hearty. It felt and tasted very old world. My partner had Veal Parm, and enjoyed it immensely. They have a liquor license and offer wines by the carafe. Dining quarters are quite tight. Wait staff is friendly... More

We had high expectations going to the oldest Italian restaurant in the US in the heart of the Italian neighborhood of Philadelphia. Unfortunately it evidently isn't what it used to be. It is indeed a classic red sauce restaurant. But not better than many other similar neighborhood restaurants found through-out the region. The sautéed calamari in red sauce was mush.... More

The quintessential South Philly Italian restaurant. Nonna is cooking in the kitchen. Nothing fancy. Just great American Italian dishes. We had a party of 12. Friendly service. Appetizers and meals on time. Ambience is early 20th century South Philly. Well woth the cab ride from Center City.

I had friends come in from out of town. They loved this place! They loved the home time feel. One of then described this place like " an Italian Thanksgiving " at your Italian cousin's home. Our group had the veal park, lasagna, fettuccini and seafood pescatore. Approvals from them all. I was made to promise to take them again... More

Good value, tasty Italian food served in a warm cozy spot near busy tourist spot- Italian Mkt. Only disappointment was the waiter we had- somewhat surly, and inattentive- He made us feel like we were a " bother" to him that we even showed up for lunch- was not overly busy that Sunday afternoon, but unfortunately we did not want... I was pleased when I found out I was in the city with the oldest Italian Resturant in the USA. It was a small place with good food and good service. The price was not too bad and the servings very nice.
