Great Italian dinner

The oldest Italian restaurant in the country more than lived up to it's reputation. We went here after a Phillies game and it was packed but we were seated right away. Typical of a downtown establishment the tables are very close and it is noisy but the food more than makes up for it. The veal... read more

Service was perfunctory, not quite rude, but definitely not friendly.Food ,honestly, mediocre. And we wanted to like it.Underseasoned, nothing special. This was recommended by a waitress elsewhere,so I really had high hopes. Also, very dimly lit.

Ate at Ralph's on 9th street last night. First was a cheese, salami, olive plate that was very good, then I had my usual, Eggplant Parm, layered like lasagna and it was perfect... Valet parking was a plus! Great food, great staff as usual !!!! FYI, Ate At Ralph's in Valley Forge Sheraton two yrs ago, never went back. Unless... More

OLD Italian cooking done right! There's a reason they are the oldest Italian restaurant in Philadelphia they are GREAT! Great seafood selection, pasta of every kind homemade of course. A variety of sauce choices. Family owned and it shows! In the Italian Market area so take your time! Enjoy South Philly at its old traditional style. Street vendors and gourmet... More

Not good on any level. Really, a feature cocktail with Svedka Vodka. We should have left at that point but the convenience factor kept us in the hotel. Service: bad. Impatient, unhelpful and inattentive. Plates hit the table with a jarring force. Wine service was improper. Caesar salad rather bland, the specialty meatballs were tired and dense. Tasted like they... More

Had a good dining experience at Ralph's. The dining room is quaint. The tables are very, very small. The waiter was personable. There were only a few other tables with patrons (there was an ice storm) and it still seemed loud. The food is wonderful. Delicious pasta - it was not heavy. The muscles in a white sauce were superb.... More

The food is real Italian and not "Merigan"! You get to enjoy it all with the ambiance of 9th Street in South Philly. It worth the trip.

I don't even know where to begin, other than worst dining experience in my life. First off the host was just flat out rude, when I tried asking for a different table, like I had 2 heads. I knew instantly that times have changed at Ralph's. No longer a family establishment, just another run of the mill tourist attraction. So... More

Terrific old school. You feel like you are eating with your family. The place is crowded and if you want a private conversation you should go elsewhere. HOWEVER if you want awesome Italian food you need to come here. Their meatballs remind me of meatballs your aunt or grandmother made when I was a kid. Put this place on your... More

I grew up in a very Italian home. If we were having pasta and sauce, the sauce was homemade and had been on the stove for 4 hours before the meal. I've tried a lot of Italian places in multiple cities, and this is the only one I've found that compares. I had the lasagna and my date had the... More
