I am sad to report that Charles served his last group of diners on May 1, 2014. I drove by to surprise my wife with take out and instead I was surprised by a letter on the door thanking his loyal customers of so many years.

My in-laws introduced this restaurant to my husband, children and me and we have been going to Charles Plaza together for a few years now. It is a family owned and run establishment and they are very loving people. We are always greeted with a hug and the service is excellent. As for the food, let me first say that... More

Charles Plaza has some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. Try the Moo Shu Chicken. The service is friendly and every thing is very fresh and tasty.

This is the best Chinese food in Philadelphia Chinatown. It is on the farthest edge, and not as flashy and touristy. The ingredients are fresh and the food is healthy. They do not serve beef or pork but do serve chicken and seafood and many vegetarian entrees. The owner, Charles is a sweetheart. I highly recommend this restaurant. Susanlia44

Based on Trip Advisor reviews we walked through Chinatown to try Charles Plaza for dinner one night. The won ton soup was filled with vegetables and the broth was delicious. We enjoyed chicken with cashews and chicken with snow peas-plenty of food and it was all very good. Charles is a gracious host and we will return to enjoy his... More

This restaurant is well worth the couple of extra blocks' walk. The food is excellent--flavorful, not too salty or greasy as in lesser Chinese restaurants. We had a variety of fish, chicken and vegetarian dishes, and all were outstanding. Service was friendly. We've been there twice on trips to Philadelphia, and will certainly return.

This restaurant is located on the edge of Philadelphia's Chinatown. Ate with a large group of people who ordered a diverse group of Chinese dishes, none of which was especially good or bad. For example, the hot & sour soup was spicy hot, but not sour--it had little or no vinegar. The service was pleasant.

We had an excellent vegetarian meal here--soup and several delicious dishes. The hosts are very gracious and friendly and the atmosphere is comfortable. Not for vegetarians only! You will enjoy your meal here.

This restaurant, on the outer perimeter of Chinatown, is worth the trip from anywhere in Philadelphia. The restaurant is scrupulously clean (including the bathrooms) and the service is attentive and professional. The owner, Charles, came to our table twice during our visit to inquire about our satisfaction. We were pleased to tell him that everything was delicious! The restaurant specializes... More
