On a rainy day, we were looking for somewhere to eat after a visit to the Penitentiary and this fit the bill. But we were pleasantly surprised by the brunch menu and enjoyed the firehouse environ. I ordered the special - a fritatta. It was described as salmon, asparagus fritatta. It was tasty but essentially what I received was a... More

Great atmosphere in a renovated fire house. We had sandwiches/burgers which were really good. Nice selection of local craft beers too. Not the cheapest place, but reasonable for Philly.

Wish we had found this place first, although don't know if we would have visited anywhere else which would have been a shame. The food here is fantastic and reasonably priced. Barman Matt is very very nice knows and does his job well. Philly cheese steak amazing, as was the pulled pork nachos. We were so full I first of... More

Tried and true after 20 years -- one of our favorites when we lived here. Great pub type food and brew, casual setting.

We visited Jack's with some out of town guests. The old firehouse is a great setting for such a restaurant. It is also directly across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary which is open for visitors. The food overall was quite average. The mixed mixed, smoked barbecue was just ok. The mushroom soup was outstanding. The chicken with bacon, mac-n-cheese... More

Really great place. Just went in to drink, but the food looked really good. Matt behind the bar is a real asset to Jacks and the whole team, and gave us some great information on what to do in the area.

This restaurant is right across the street from the Eastern State Penitentiary. So, after our tour we stopped by to have a couple of drinks. Our bar tender was very entertaining and we ended up staying for a couple hours when it was supposed to be a quick stop. Nice indoor/outdoor area to just hang out. And, very well priced... More

I think this is the best place across the street from the penitentiary. We stopped here after we got out, and we definitely needed a pick-me-up after that. Really nice bar, and a great selection of whiskey and beers. A must stop after any term in prison. The bartender was very sociable and called us a cab to complete our... More

We stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. The bread was mediocre. We ordered a burger well done and one medium well. They mixed up the order and the medium well done was not even close to a MW, and it was the wrong burger. The server was very nice, though. He was attentive and apologetic, but after... More
