Shiao, as we call it, has been our "go to" place in Chinatown for nearly 15 years. We took many a friend who all agreed it was one of the best places in the city. It has gone through a number of roller coaster rides over the years and never fully recovered after Mr Kung died some time back. But... read more

I was surprised by some of the offerings. You don't find jellyfish in just any Chinese restaurant. On the menu were also fish maw soup, watercress soup, fresh Chinese vegetables, congee, fried rice with chicken and salty fish ... All dishes you find at a legitimate Chinese restaurant. The restaurant has been there for 29 years and there appears to... More

My boyfriend loves this place but I am not sure why. Aside from some of their plates being really cute and it not being very busy so you get the place almost to yourself, the food was just okay, the portions were terrible and their credit card machine "works sometimes and sometimes doesn't". My friends and I came here last... More

This place is awesome after a night out and a few drinks. The food is always fresh and well prepared. I have never been disappointed here. Try the shrimp balls, huge oysters (if they are not sold out), and many other dishes. Well worth a try and you may get hooked.

Shaio was our very favorite restaurant in Chinatown for years. It's still good but only a glimmer of it's old self. Fried wontons had little to no shrimp, and the shredded chicken with hot peppers had very little chicken. Hate to diss it but there is better.

We made a late night stop here after a show at the World Cafe Live, which is less than a 10-minute drive (40-minute walk) from here. The food was hot and fresh, which is always a pleasant surprise when dining out late. The sweet and sour chicken was excellent, though they did skimp on the fruit and veggies. While the... More

Ordered the dumplings, shrimp toast to start. Loved the dumplings, So good! Shrimp toast was good but I don't love fried bread, too greasy. Salt baked trio of shrimp, scallops and squid is the best, I crave this for days after I eat it!! Had some other beef hot pot thing, it was just ok. Always happy leaving here!

They happily seated us at 2:30 am (they close at 3am). The porkchop was tender, tasty and delicious. While the Tofu was prepared just right. We also had the chicken fried noodles. The entire meal was satisfying, and cooked fresh. I didn't feel bloated afterwards. I will definitely return back again.

When starving artists are willing to travel across town for delicious yet inexpensive Chinese food, gourmet food for reasonable prices is almost a sure bet. Student musicians from the renowned Curtis Institute of Music are known for frequenting this place, and for good reason. Ordering beyond standard tourist fare is the key to a wonderful meal, although the usual hot... More

With so many options in Chinatown, this was an excellent random choice. I could have done without the t.v. in order to relish the authentic experience. Dinner on a weeknight after the dinner rush- got right in and seated. Hot green tea was brought right away with my own pot to refill as needed. All the food was fresh and... More
