The mussels are excellent. Come with fires and a couple excellent roles. But the mussels are the focus and they are the best I have had. The beer menu is outstanding and the bartenders are very knowledgeable and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food, beer and service. Great place.

Tried Monk's Cafe on a recommendation from family and they were right. Best selection of Belgian beers I have ever seen. The mussels were amazing as was the Gorgonzola burger. Good food and good service.

A very strong "pub/Rathskeller" setting, with an amazing array of excellent beer--I dislike beer but took 3 sips of my husband's choice and it was phenomenal. The mussels are delicious and come in many varieties--heaven for a shellfish fan like me. Everyone was happy with their food, mussels or otherwise, and the "frites" were delicious, including with the special mayonnaise... More

Small, crowded and requiring a wait (no reservations) Monk's has been a consistent "must do" whenever we visit Philly. The amazing collection of Belgian and other beers and ales coupled with very good pub food always pleases and then some. The mussels are great! The menu offers very good variety and well, the pom frits speak for themselves. One of... More

Awesome local spot to hang out and have a great beer and fantastic food. The muscles are amazing (I had the Ghent version). Almost everyone in the restaurant had muscles of some sort. They were very reasonably priced as well. We went here 2 times in 4 days and would go back again. The mac and cheese was also out... More

Spent some time during a pub crawl through Philly at Monk's. Friendly staff and a clean establishment. They have an absolutely awesome selection of beer. I prefer draft and sampled several. We will definitely return. Love the old decor and local pub feel. Only knock is that they have a lot of high priced beer but there are enough reasonably... More

I'm not a beer drinker, but both my husband and oldest son are. We came here on the recommendation of friends, and the beer selections did not disappoint my husband and son. The food was pretty good; I tried the smoked trout salad, and it was excellent.

Normally I cringe if someone describes something as being "awesome. " but as I think of the afternoon spent drinking incredible first-rate dark beer with exceptional pub fare, I am reduced to imprecise language and the desire for more incredible beer. Monk's is the place. Go there as often as you can and stay for a long time. In other... More

This little pub is my husband's favorite place for mussels. We used to live in Philly and he has to go back there everytime we visit town. We went for an early dinner on Saturday evening. There was a wait, but we found seats at the back bar and decided to eat there. We had the Ghent mussels with bleu... More

Amazing range of beers - possibly the largest selection I've seen. Great menu - the mussels were perfect and delicious. A fun place to dine and people watch!
