I visited Monk's after I read about its extensive beer menu. I was surprised to see the great vegetarian options that they had on their menu. I had the seitan cheese"steak". I had tried a tofu cheese"steak" at another place in the city and it had nothing on Monk's seitan. The texture of the seitan is similar to that of... More

My husband and I went on a trip to Philadelphia this past week and made sure to stop at Monk's while we were here. It was located very close to where we were staying and we had read a bunch of amazing reviews about the place. We didn't have anything to eat - we were there for the incredible beer... More

They have a beer bible. What else needs to be said? I don't drink beer, but my husband was in heaven. The location is fantastic, a few minutes walk away from Rittenhouse Square in a very safe-feeling area, considering it is in the heart of the city. We were in Philly for 2 nights and it was so good, we... More

Small place with very good beer list. The beer is really the main attraction, the food is ok but not outstanding. The mussels are good as is the Steak Frites salad but the rest of the menu is not terribly inspiring. The beer makes up for it, though.

Well, at least in Philadelphia. I like to eat at the bar and drink the craft beers. I also like the people who go to this establishment because they also are beer lovers like me.

I've been here so many times and with each visit the time grows between the next and when I finally go back I'm reminded why. It's crowded, loud, and there's always a wait for sub-par food. On this occasion I called before walking over and was told there was no wait. I get there and there's a 30 minute wait.... More

I love Belgian beer, so Monk's is paradise for me. A giant list with a wide variety of beers. The food is very good Belgian bar food, and the mussels and fries are top notch and not to be missed.

Monk's has an extensive beer menu. The Flemish Sour is wonderful. We went on a Saturday night and had a long wait to be seated. Host/hostess did not do a very good job estimating time to be seated. They told us half an hour to 45 minutes. The wait was nearly an hour and a half. I was traveling with... More

A quick check on Trip advisor yesterday, brought me and my wife to this Belgian (hence the title) Gastropub just two blocks from our holiday apartment in Philly. It looked busy which was an obvious sign this place had something going for it. It was a little noisy but that's just the American way, and at least it had a... More

If you are looking for a dubbel, triple, or an ipa come to this place The beer menus knocked me on the floor! (And I have been a hope head for years) Otherwise, the staff reminds me of the wine snobs in napa. If you can get past their ivory tower, the menu is worth it.
