Grandma's Italian Food

Food was excellent and plentiful. Wine list left something to be desired. Very authentic. Family/neighborhood ambience.

Yo, let's head to a genuine old style Italian joint in south Philly. Thinking along those lines? If so, Marra's is your place. Thoroughly Italian from the owner, the staff, the menu and the grandparents pictures on the walls. Nothing fancy, just good, hearty authentic food. Staff is blunt but effective. No coaching from Miss Manners here, but who cares?... More

Went with a large group for dinner one evening. The food was amazing, but the service was not pleasant. I would not say it was bad service, but a bad attitude. Because we asked for a few different checks (which was communicated when the reservation was originally made) the waitress kept complaining about it the entire time. She complained when... More

Our family has been eating at Marra's since the late 1970's; and many times I stop off on the way home from the airport for my "pizza fix" after a road trip. What's more, it's where I introduced the Vidalia onion to Philadelphia all the way back in c.1983 -- More on that in a moment. What makes Marra's pizza... More

Dinner last night was my first time here. Good food, nice sized portions at reasonable prices. Dinners come with a side (pasta or veggie), but not soup or salad. I had eggplant parm which was made from thinly sliced eggplant was not breaded- delicious. There was good bread for the table and ordering a carafe of red was a great... More

Marra's is done. We have been loyal customers for 25 years at Marra's, but they have recently declined to the point where we can no longer give them another chance. What once was an excellent friendly place has deteriorated into horrible service and lousy food. The last time we went was indicative of their unfortunate demise. We waited over 20... More

We went to Marra ' s last summer and it was AWFUL. We had an hour and a half to get some pizza before leaving for a concert. It took the waiter almost 20 minutes to come to our table. He went out to the street several times to talk on his phone. He did not ask us for more... More

We've been going to Marra's for more than 20 years and the food is always great. It's a 30 plus minute ride, but well worth it. Sometimes the service isn't perfect, but the food more than makes up for it. Their pizza is awesome - probably our all time favorite. Four of us shared pizza, pasta Bolognese, and scungilli salad.... When I last reviewed Marra's 3 years ago, I praised the food but criticized the grumpiness of the owners and managers. I suggested a charm transplant for the place. Two nights ago and in numerous visits over the last 3 years, the food was still top notch but, as they pronounce it in South Philly, the "attytood" had lightened considerably.... More

The pizza is good. We decided to try a different kind of pizza we wouldn't get at home. Tried a.white pizza with Prosciutto, artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms. Very good. The crust was excellent. Mushrooms are canned which I could do without. Wanted a low key meal late on Sunday. Picked this for reasonable italian in the Passyunk area.... More
