We had very high expectations based on the TripAdvisor reviews BUT they were clearly met. First off, much more relaxed and casual than we expected - happy surprise. Also fairly low sound level which is rare for Philly. The service was some of the best we ever had - friendly, helpful. But the best part of Vernick, is the high... More

We had a romantic dinner with excellent cocktails. We tried a few small plates. We tried some things we never had before....which was fun. Our favorite dish was a muscle and couscous small plate. It was a little too dark for me. I like to be able to really see my food. It was a very enjoyable experience. Our waitress... More

We had dinner last night at Vernick. We were so lucky to sit at the chef's/kitchen counter. I don't think I could sit anywhere else now in spite of the great ambience elsewhere in the restaurant. We were able to watch the chefs prepare our meals. What a treat to be able to get a glimpse of cooking culture. It... More

There's no way to explain how great this dining experience was from beginning to end. We started with the Peach and Lamb Confit (tremendous blend of flavors), moved to the Grilled Heart of Romaine (delicious) and ended with the Braised Rabbit Leg and Sausage (perfectly cooked). We sat upstairs at a table overlooking the street and they opened the windows... More

Friends and I went last night and everything was top notch. We started at the bar, and that's when we realized how special this evening was going to be. The special cocktails were not the usual fru-fru juice drinks. Blue Heat was tequila, lime juice, cayenne oil and extraordinary! The food menu is as inventive and creative as the drink... More

Chef Vernick is a potential super star on the Philadelphia restaurant scene, although he is young, new to the business, and still operates only this one restaurant. He has a marvelous purity of vision and simplicity of style, coupled with excellent execution. It's hard to get a table, always, and for good reason. My favorite, when i can get a... More

Our party of six was seated at the large table on the second floor. The staff was cheerful, friendly, and helpful. Between all of us, we ordered almost everything on the menu and found ourselves fighting over the plates. (Even friends and family won't share when something is exceptionally delicious.) The appetizers -- "toasts" -- are a great way to... More

Our whole bronzino with fennel and orange was nicely prepared, as were the sides of mushrooms and greens. The best part of our meal, however, was the dessert of sweet corn pudding. There's also a nice selection of wines by the glass, including some unusual selections such as zweigelt from Austria.

For our first time at Vernick we had the good fortune to be seated opposite the kitchen where Greg Vernick presided like a zen master on what elsewhere might have been a slammed Saturday night. Instead food, service, ambiance and a summer evening converged in a way that made the night joyfully tranquil and the meal a contemplative feast. A... More

I *really* wanted to love this place given how amazing all the reviews are. But at the end of the day, our experience wasn't the amazing, life-changing culinary experience I had hoped for based on the reviews. I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. Positives - The service is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and sitting upstairs near the... More
