We eagerly awaited our dinner at Cantina Avenida after they had closed for part of the summer for extensive revamping. But after our experience there, we suggest a re-revamping. The restaurant is visually appealing in its setting in an old house in a historic Philadelphia neighborhood. But the service was first too pressured (as we engaged in conversation, our server... Avenida is now a Tapas restaurant and has been renamed Cantina Avenida. We sat outside on the patio which overlooks an expanse of lawn, which is unusual for a restaurant in the area, Our server was terrific! She knew each item on the menu well, kept our glasses filled on a warm afternoon and was attentive without being intrusive. The... More

Nestled on Germantown Ave., it is just a stone's throw from tony Chestnut Hill. It resides in a large, old stone house with an enclosed patio in the back that is perfect for parties. The food has a South American flair because the owner/chef is from Ecuador, but don't let that put you off. The food is delicious without being... More

Stopped for dinner at Avenida, Cocina Latina, on a Tuesday evening and they were featuring “taco Tuesday”, which was three tacos and three sides for $20. I opted for the special and I have to say it was a great call. The tacos were fantastic and filling. The sides were also tasty. I also had an orange mojito and it... More

I am going to give this restaurant 5-stars, not because it ranks with Lutece in New York, but because it does so many things so, so well, at a reasonable price. If you are an adventurous eater, you will love this restaurant. It is at the top of the pile for adventurous, small, specialty, fresh-ingredient local restaurants. First, the location... More

Went here for my 1 year anniversary and overall this restaurant was very good, food was tasty and moderately priced. I would love to stop by for the taco Tuesday I keep hearing about. Calamari and sides like the veg and mash had a tendency to be just a smidge under seasoned. The duck breast however I am still dreaming... More

Sizeable piece of sea bass was perfect - moist, fresh, sweet --done with a yummy fruited rice and excellent aoili sauce. Outdoor seating is very pleasant, nice atmosphere it appeared as we passed through the inside, too. Others at the table greatly appreciated their meals, as well.

Our party of five visited one weekend evening during happy hour. My blood orange mojito was delicious and only $5. The chips with guacamole and two kinds of salsa was plentiful as the chips were refilled twice. I ordered the crab cakes. They were wonderful, and not weighed down with a lot of filling/breading. My daughter ordered the kids chicken... More

We dined here for the first time on a Tuesday evening. It was neither crowded nor loud. We learned that it was 'taco tuesday' - meaning there was a special taco menu in addition to the regular menu. You could choose between any combination of 3 types of tacos (tilapia, chicken, black bean) and 3 side dishes (black beans, cole... More
