the closest thing to Italy in NE Philly

We have been enjoying this place for many years now, back to when it first opened as the Italian Bistro. The place has seen a few changes over the years, but the most recent update to the menu is one of the best. While this is a nice place for dinner, it's also a great place for lunch. Ok. This used to be an awesome Italian spot that we frequented very often. Sadly, as with most places I love, they decided to change the menu, and the way the place operated. This was probably earlier this year. I just happened to be adding places and saw my earlier review. Very disappointing. They were close to home and the... More

This is a good neighborhood find. I had the eggplant parmigiana and my date had the lasagna. Both portions were large and tasty. Our friends had dishes which they customized and the restaurant was very accommodating with their requests. Our server was attentive for the most part but we did have to ask for our glasses to be refilled and... More

Went with a group of friends for casual lunch. The eggplant parm was a bit bitter, maybe the sauce? But my real complaint was the prices: our bill was an act of fiction, not matching the prices we had seen in the menu. (I even double checked afterwards.) We tried to politely and quietly ask for a fix, and the... More

We were staying over at the Starwood hotel down the street when the hotel recommended this hotel as local, no chain. We started out with their italian flat bread which was really light and a delight with the olive oil dip. We also had brushetta which was some of the best we ever had. Good flavor, light with fresh tomatoes.... More

This place is vile. Everything was salty and tasted like it was from a jar. there were 6 of us. Everyone of us agreed it was foul. When we called the manager over he was very unprofessional and insisted all the food was prepared according to the recipe. All we can say is the new recipes suck royally. The best... More

Living in the northeast, we have been to this place numerous times and we love it. The food is delicious and the brick oven pizza is the best we have ever had. We usually go for the specials, they tend to be a bit pricey (20-25 dollars), but they are very fresh and unique in taste and the portions are... More

I threw a celebration for my wife earning her Masters Degree here and we've been here before and have thrown parties for other events as well. We love this place but this time I had the Salmon and it didn't smell but it had a sour taste. I didn't say anything about it (unlike me) to the waitress but probably... More

Recently went here with friends. Our friends are Italian and loved it. My husband and I had trouble finding something we liked. I love shrimp scampi, but I never heard of putting chili peppers and mushrooms in it. They brought out bread with no butter. We had to ask for the butter. My husband ordered the chicken parm and liked... More

Food is fresh, somewhat unique, and well above average. I have been there a few times and never had a bad experience. My biggest complaint is that wine and drinks are too expensive. Otherwise expect a very good fairly priced meal. Selection is very good, service has always been good,, and the atmosphere is very good. Outside of center city... More
