Great Portuguese food, served in huge portions (plan to share a main course with someone else), in a very nice setting well away from the tourist clutter around Independence Mall. Portuguese is one of the more under-appreciated cuisines, and if you like it (or want to try it) this is the place to go. The only drawbacks are that it... More

Step out of your comfort zone - Check Know that you will be experiencing different cuisine, not American comfort food - Check Cash only - Check Reservations - Check BYOB - Double Check I was prepared for all of these things and left it up to the waiter to guide us through our meal. The food was different, tasty and... More

When I think of Portuguese cuisine in the northeast, naturally I think of the Ironbound section of Newark. This Portuguese conclave has its fill of decent restaurants – the operative word being “decent.” I’ve been to half a dozen Portuguese restaurants in Newark and they seem to get close to what Portuguese cuisine is all about (that blend of seafood... Koo Zee Doo kindly managed to fit our group of 10 in comfortably one Saturday evening for what turned out to be a charming and wonderful meal. We loved just about everything, including the chicken gizzards and octopus gravy, Our group likes to share and so we all were able to try a great many things on the menu. The... More

This is kind of a one trick pony restuarant. Not that others aren't in many ways, but this only offers Portugese food and there isn't a great deal of variety. It is sort of winter comfort food. It;s an open air kitchen and the night we were there the ventilation system wasn't working so well and it made for a... More

I fell in love with Portugal the first time I went there 2 years ago. I've been back 4 times since then, and one of the things I look forward to is the incredible food. Koo Zee Doo is my quick fix when I am feeling nostalgic for my time in Portugal. The menu is authentic, the atmosphere is warm... More

Try the pato (duck) rice! For 2-3 people, get the tasting menu; for larger groups just share, family-style. Good choice for meat lovers.

For a busy Friday night – the service was absolutely perfect. Many small plate or tapas restaurants will suggest an excessive amount of choices – but not here. The food was extremely good – pork and clams, salt cod sashimi and the suckling pig were out of this world. I would absolutely return!

This rustic neighborhood gem has wonderful, homey Portuguese food. The seafood salad with oranges was sublime. Not many chefs can get lobster, shrimp, calamari and octopus all cooked perfectly. The balance with the blood and naval oranges and cilantro was perfect. We had the rabbit stew for an entree. It was delicious. The bread was crusty Portuguese broa. This place... More
