FIRST...the 932 S. 10st Street location needs to be deleted (that location is closed as of 2009). Shank's now has two locations. The Perri (original) family operates Shank's Original Uptown at 120 S. 15th Street, Philadelphia and the other location is THIS one at Pier 40. See the web site for the best info. In a City of Great Sandwiches, this place just might have the best

Basically a shack on the river but do NOT be fooled. I suggest the Chicken Cutlet Italiano..breaded chicken , Broc Rabe and sharp provolone...seeded roll & long hots....I love a cheesesteak, swear by the Philly Roast Pork and would basically do anything for a Nick's Roast Beef...but the Chicken... read more

My first 'official' Philly cheesesteak did not disappoint. I had the 'steak with wiz' (Cheez Wiz) and onions and it was the best! Highly recommend!

Then swing by Pier 40. My craving for a sandwich got me at Shank's. It is right next to Pier 40 bldg. There is no dedicated parking at Shank's. They are actually sharing what limited parking spaces Pier 40 bldg. has. They have only alfresco dining with very limited seating. They usually cater to take out customers. I don't know... More

Stopped on the way to the ballgame. Nice driveup/walkup window. Easy access. The cheesesteaks, while taking a bit longer than similarly set-up establishments, were worth the wait. Plenty of meat and nicely melted cheese, with firm yet fried onions. The sweet peppers were also adequate. Pleasantly surprised by the shoestring fries. Even though frozen, they were not put into fryer... More

What a sandwich!!! Everything about this sub was perfection. The meat. . the bread. If you are in Philly, you really need to experience this sub. When I am in philly again, I will put this on my agenda. The steak is juicy, flavorful; and tender. Wow!!! You will not be disappointed. The fries are not bad either.

Having grown up in Philadelphia, I know that there are a lot of places to get a good steak sandwich. At the recommendation of a friend, we tried Shank's. We were not disappointed. Even though their sandwich doesn't appear to use the usual Amoroso Rolls found with many steak and hoagie sandwiches, but baguettes. They are very tasty. Their menu... More

We had both the pork sandwich (precursor to the cheesesteak) and a cheesesteak. Both are solid versions of these awesome sandwiches in a great little stand on the pier by the river. Great South Philly feel. Much better than the touristy places which will go nameless here.

unasuming really cool place with great atmosphere. the philly cheesesteak sandwich was awesome with softbread and the ratio of cheese-to-steak was just perfect, it didn't feel greasy at all, which is really hard to say for this kind of sandwich. we wanted a place were the locals eat and hit a home run with the selection. our visit was a... This place is right next to the Coast Guard Station on Pier 40. It's a very small stand with a few picnic tables out front. Fantastic sandwiches and cool staff. Yummy!!!
