A pleasant chance reservation

We went to Sampan on 2/21/15 for my wife's birthday dinner. We went at the recommendation of the concierges at the hotel we stayed at in Philly. We were supposed to eat at another restaurant but due to the weather we wanted to stay close to our hotel. The atmosphere was great, really fun and the... read more

You get to share many tapas type dishes, end up liking few, and the bill quickly mounts up. Liked the fish dish with mushrooms, rest not exceptional. To satisfy the hungry, order a noodle dish. Very popular and very noisy.

Happening restaurant in center city, cool decor, good service and food. Nothing beats Asian fusion that we are used to in California but this is decent enough. Fun to share all the plates family style. They are famous for their mini ice cream cones for dessert.

Visited this restaurant with a few friends during the week night. We had a number of items on the menu and all of us were very pleased with the taste of the food. From the appetizer to entree to the desert all were reasonable portion, different tastes but great tasting at the same time. There was a large crowd all... More

I was slightly disappointed by Sampan because the menu in the restaurant is different from what is on the Center City District Restaurant Week website. The difference is that it was smaller. I also mistakenly believed that for $35 a person, we would each get 7 courses. Nope. You get to share 7 between the two of you. It was... More

Stopped here to have dinner before the theater. The place is JUMPING - even at 6 PM. The atmosphere is vibrant (noisy, but not loud enough to interfere with conversation). Sampled 6-7 small plates -- all of them delicious! Highly recommend.

What a great meal! We were here during restaurant week and had the chef's tasting menu. You get to pick 7 items for the table. All 7 were excellent. We especially loved the edamame truffle dumplings, Korean BBQ satay, chicken bao buns, Vietnamese filet, and glazed salmon. The dessert was awesome and adorable - two mini cones of homemade ice... Food was fantastic in this lively and loud restaurant. The have a regular bar and kitchen side seating. Asian fusion meets tapas would be the best way I could describe it.

This is a fun date night restaurant! I went with my husband on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The place was packed with couples, groups and even multi-generation families. We ordered 4 items to share. The portions were large, and we took home left-overs. My husband said that the Kung Pao shrimp was the... More

Very interesting menu, intended to share plates with your companion. Exotic asian fusion. Reservations are higly suggested. Try the duck rice, it's fantastic!
