These were the words passed on to me by my native-Philadelphia co-worker and boy was he right! The roast pork sandwich is absolutely fabulous. Please, do have it with spinach and cheese. We had wanted to get cheese steaks but, unfortunately, we arrived at the tail end of the day and they had run out of bread (only had kaiser... More

When I visited Philadelphia the first time, I was taken to Geno's for a cheesesteak. I let my friend order for me, as she was a native here and I figured she'd know best. I was underwhelmed. They smothered it in what seemed like Velveeta instead of real cheese. I really didn't understand why people were gaga over this kind... More

best cheesesteak in philly, also has amazing roast pork. The Milano is the best thing they have (and one of the best sandwiches I have ever had).

Absolutely deserving James Beard Award recipient, this cinder block bunker near the Philly waterfront is fabulous. They are only open limited hours Monday through Saturday but you have to make the pilgramage. There is usually a line, populated by every profession you can imagine but it is quickly dispatched by the great staff who have been there for years. The... More

Had the large pork with sharp cheese and spinach. Pork was cooked perfect and that sharp cheese just put it over the top. Gooood!

This place is nothing to look at and is basically a jacked up luncheonette. You are not going here for the ambiance or people watching but the food. They have a whole lot of items but DO NOT deviate from the plan...large roast pork with aged provolone. I had theirs' with spinach but prefer Philly pork sandos with rapini like... More

We visited John's Roast Pork after seeing it featured on television. My husband and I split a steak sandwich and a pork sandwich (and took lots of food home.) We both agreed that the cheese steak was the best we have had and we've sampled all the hots spots in Philly. The steak is obviously a good quality cut. We... More

It's a little out of the way, but it was really worth it! We ordered the cheesesteak with onions and american cheese with a side order of fries. Fantastic!

Tried John's because I read an article that called the roast pork one of America' greatest sandwiches, and I can totally agree with that. The pork sandwich is amazing. It doesn't even taste like pork. It's juicy and delicious but not the least bit greasy. But -- sorry -- the cheesesteak is not as good. It's not bad, and probably... More
