Big Messy Wonderful Sandwiches

This shack/hut/unimposing building serves some of the best sandwiches in Philadelphia. Get the roast pork and provolone, get a cheesesteak, get both and share with your friends. Sandwiches are large, outdoor seating only - no cards, but there is an ATM for your convenience.

My friend Kelly told me about John's last November. Her friend told her about it the November before. Probably friends have been telling friends since 1930. John's is nothing fancy but that very plain face hides some of the best food around. You can feel a bit out of sorts on your first visit - the staff will be nice... More

The roast pork was tender, flavorful and juicy - this is roast pork the way it should be. And while there are better cheese steaks in Philly (like just around the corner at Tony Luke's), their cheese steak is still a solid contender, and if you want to experience both, this is a good place to try them.

I have been hearing about John's for years as the best Philly steaks in Philadelphia. the place is a little shack near what used to be Delaware Ave. Been there since 1930. If you want both sandwiches (pork / Steak) you have to order from different counters. They don't use Cheese Wiz but have sharp provolone. We ordered the pork... More

There is no place to eat unless the weather is good, so amenities are really low. It's a long cab ride if you're staying in the city center. However, it's worth going to because the food is really good value and really excellent. Locals told us to eat here, the best cheesesteak in town - so we did and didn't... More

As we were heading to DC, a side trip to Philly was a must. How could we not stop and get a Philly Cheesesteak? We wanted something fairly close to the highway and that is how we ended up at John's. I wish I could of tried their pork, but we were on a mission! The cheesesteak was incredible! The... More

This is my go to place for cheese steaks in Philly. They also serve a great roast pork as well. If it's lunchtime their could be a long wait but this place is definitely worth it. The steak is a large size that dwarfs the steaks you get at the normal tourist places like Pat's or Geno's.

Okay everyone has there opinion but I must say anything with steak is my favorite (but I'm very picky) I have tried many places and me being from Kansas I know a good steak!!!! This place not only packs the steak on (most places skimp) but it's juicy with perfect flavors....the way the cheese melts into the steak mixed with... More

Came here and had a cheesesteak (with provolone) and a roast pork sandwich (with sharp provolone and sautéed spinach). Both sandwiches were nothing less than excellent. Having tried some of Philly's most well known cheesesteak joints (Pats, Genos, Steves, Jims), I easily prefer the cheesesteak at John's. On top of it all the people were extremely nice, which is something... More
