Food can be uneven but great ambiance

We have been to Whidbey Island a number of times and no visit is complete without a stop at the Captain Whidbey Inn for at least a cocktail. The food has been uneven over time and this visit was no exception. We ate in the bar (where you can order off the dining room menu if you want) this trip,... read more

Made an online reservation for 7 PM stating it was for 35th Anniversary. Arrived at 6:45, and said we would wait in the bar until a table was available. Hostess said they had a 10 minute wait and pointed us toward the bar, and we didn't see any wait person until 7:10, when we finally ordered drinks, which we received... More

See my review of the Inn for details. The restaurant was our best dining experience on the island. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

I've never left a poor review, but this place gets it. We were staying in the Capt. Whidbey Inn so the restaurant was the best choice. Location and history are wonderful, food was excellent. Everything else was crap. We arrived for our reservation at 7:15 and were not waited on until after 8:00. We couldn't order because they ran out... More

I ate here as part of a group of seven. The waiter seemed non-interested in serving us and it seemed all we heard from him that night was 'we are out of that' as in crabs, which is one of their house specialties, limited white wine because they were out, out of Cokes, no chocolate cake, no gin for a... Not sure what if anything is worth this experience......food horrible and OVER PRICED!!!! Don't waste a penny here! Building is falling apart which should have been the first clue! Not worth the time to write a review as it's already been said.....Health dept should investigate this place! Disgusting!

When we are on Whidbey, we make a point to stop by, especially on a nice afternoon. Great place for wine and steamed mussels and clams on the veranda. Very welcoming. Good service. Glad we stopped by.

Driving around Whidbey Island on a sunny day with my family, we had an early dinner bite at the Inn. Sat outside on the deck overlooking Penn Cove. The seafood chowder was fantastic--won the 2015 Penn Cove mussel chowder award- but other small dishes like the chilled strawberry gazpacho and white fish were also excellent, together with their fresh home... I live in the Pacific NW and have eaten many different seafood meals all around the area. The experience I had this evening at this establishment outweighed them all. I had a dish called Fruit de Mer and it was simply divine. A combination of Penn Cove mussels and clams, fresh Dungeness crab, gnocchi to die for. The sauce made... More

Scallops wrapped in prosciutto, oh, goodness, absolutely delicious. My husband's steamers were great. Fresh baked bread, how can you go wrong? Nice assortment of wines.
