Decent place to eat if you're not expecting the "five stars" standard

This is Mammoth, not The Riviera, Malibu, New York or Beverly Hills. I find some of the other reviews here surprising when the authors compare their experience here with world class establishments they are apparently well acquainted with elsewhere. This is Mammoth, not The Riviera, Malibu, New York or Beverly Hills. I find some of the other reviews here surprising when the authors compare their experience here with world class establishments they are apparently well acquainted with elsewhere. The steak we had was excellent, of a good size, and the appetizers we're surprisingly good. The decor of the restaurant... More

Had dinner after a day of skiing. 6 people in our party which probably did not help the situation. The atmosphere was nice and warm and the bartender was very friendly. In general most of the plates of food were done well. They had ran out of several items after the order was taken which was unfortunate. My main complaint... More

We've eaten dinner here several times, and we've always enjoyed the food and wine. I really like how you can order a half glass of wine in addition to full glasses and bottles. If you can get a seat at the bar before dinner, it's a really nice ambiance. On our recent visit I had Coq au vin for dinner... More

Very friendly service and nice food with a reasonable wine list. Went twice during our visit to Mammoth because they were very welcoming and the food was good. Even though it was during their slower time, still made an effort with service -attentive but not intrusive. Really enjoyed it both times.

"One of the best ever" would be going too far. This is not the late lamented Carnelian Room or L'Orangerie. However, I had an immensely enjoyable experience dining by myself at the bar. Wine is offered by the 3 or 6 oz. glass, which permitted mini cross verticals of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with the two appetizers I ordered, crab... More

The restuarant's long name (bistro, etc.) suggests the airs with which it seeks to present itself.. Your first clue that you are not in a first class place is the ordinary, run down, almost gloomily ill lit physical appearance. In fact the same space is used by the aging lower end hotel of which is a part for their brekfasts.... More

We've tried some of the best resturants ... Petras ranks at the very near top in the complete experience to be had dining. Another resturant had been highly recommended, and Petras also mentioned as a near by landmark, but circumstances and timing lead us to the front door right at opening time. The primary recommendation had to wait. Atmosphere... your... More

Upscale but comfortable Expensive but worth it Smallish menu (no specials) Excellent food beautifully presented: scallops, duck confit, ceviche, shrimp pasta. Desserts were terrific too. Outstanding service: attentive but not intrusive. Eat here!

Food and service was very good and the bar was full. The only sucky part was a drunk guy who was very loud. The server offered to move us when another table was available but the restaurant was so full we had to sit and listen to him. Other than that, it was a good experience and I would go... More

My wife and I eat there about 8 times per year, twice in the last two weeks. It's our favorite fine dining restaurant in Mammoth since Skadi closed. I don't understand why more good restaurants don't offer half glasses of wine. We normally each order 3 half-glasses and have the staff pick depending on our dinner choices. They've been spot...
