There are lots of people will describe this place as the best but I'm not so sure. The venue certainly is excellent. An old Victorian style house with lots of oak and brick. I'd have to say the ambiance is by far better than most in the Dayton area. The wait staff was attentive and efficient while being friendly. The... More

Jay's helped us plan for a great party for 24 people in their private room (under the green awning "Jay's Kitchen Door"). The dedicated service and food were exceptional. Our server made wonderful suggestions on two types of appetizers (mini crab cakes and jumbo shrimp) and wines to get the party started. Our server kept us informed of the timing... More

This place is in a great location - the Oregon District of downtown Dayton - and the ambiance is quite nice. The glow of the wood interiors and the massive mahogany bar impart an old-world country club atmosphere. But beyond that, the place is expensive and somewhat stuffy. Expect to pay $8-10 for a drink, $15 for an appetizer and... More

I always try to patronize the locally owned restaurants over the chains as well as root for their success. However Jay's still charges top dollar and the food isn't really great. The fish was tasteless and disappointing. I wish I could say something better, but Jay's really needs to focus on improving what they serve.

Locally owned and operated seafood restaurant located just outside the central business district. Old, interesting building with cobblestone streets. Plenty of parking on street and nearby. Decent, not too expensive, wine list. Good selection of beers. Lots of fish selections. The ahi tuna was great - fresh, perfectly seared, tender. The monkfish special was delicious, although a bit small. Planked... More

Jay's Restaurant is a location for seafood. My husband and I enjoy the Oysters Rockefeller, Clam Chowder, and spinach salad. Entrees are good but sometimes have been delivered cold.

Twenty-two years ago we had just signed the contract on our new home in preparation for our move to Dayton. We asked our realtor where she recommended we go to celebrate, and she said Jay's. We were delighted by the setting, food, and service. We've returned many times over the years - except for the week-ends we failed to call... More

Four of us had dinner here last week and each ordered something different, yet everyone was totally pleased with their order. The fish was prepared exactly correctly. We all belonged to the clean plate club!

That had to be one of the worst seafood dinners I've ever had, The salad was warm and wilted, with a liberal amount of "home made salad dressing" thsat was supposed to be Blue Cheese but tatsted more like runny mayonnaise. I could only stomach half of the salad. I had the fried oysters.. UGH! The tempura style batter was... More

The décor and atmosphere was exactly how it should be on Christmas Eve. The place oozes warmth and friendliness. On our visit it was full to the rafters and the service was pretty slow as a result, but not the end of the world. The starters and desserts were great, but most of the mains on our table were a...
