Had breakfast at the Island Café this morning and I wasn't wanting breakfast so the server pointed a new item on the menu..."Asian Chicken Sandwich with Asian Sweet and Spicy Sauce" with a choice of a side. I selected cole slaw. What a wonderful combination. The sandwich was "sweet and spicy" and the "slaw" complimented those flavors. The server "Diana"... More

This place has great food. It can be rather pricey, depending on what you order. I find the average meal is around $15 a person if you eat cheap. They do have the best cheeseburger steak around. I've never had a bad meal and the staff is always friendly.

Many who loved the Nick's Seafood Pavilion restaurant on the waterfront may not realize that the famous chefs from Nicks wound up at Duke of York. They still make the best lobster and seafood dishes on the planet. Sad that they are not more heavily advertised, we have not been impressed with the other restaurants at the waterfront.

While visiting Yorktown today we decided to give The Duke of York a try for lunch as we saw a cute sign advertising their crab cakes. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who later turned out to be our waitress. As we were entering we noticed quite few tables that needed to be bused and also noticed that quite... More

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant and showing us where we need to improve. It's clear that you arrived at a time when business was more than could be handled by the scheduled staff. This is an issue that all service business' struggle with, making sure you have enough staff, but not so much that... More

We've eaten in this hidden Yorktown, VA, beach restaurant several times. Food and service were always outstanding. "Hidden" because this restaurant is in the Duke Hotel / Motor Lodge and not among the heavily advertised, and also highly regarded, beach restaurants. Hence, many do not know of this gem.

The French toast is some of the best I've ever had. Loved it with the cooked apples. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the renowed chef from the former Nick's Seafood is on duty. All of the seafood dishes were delicious. The servers were attentive and friendly, especially Diana. Not the fanciest decor in Yorktown, but some of the best food.

in the midst of the birth of America's freedom, the Island Cafe is truly a local tradition... overlooking the York River, our family's favorite is biscuits and gravy on Sunday morning after church... the staff is excellent, the food is southern, and the walk along the beach or up the hill to the historic district is relaxing after enjoying your... I have been coming here for years for the crabcakes and have sent numerous other people to try them. Everyone has agreed that the crabcakes are the best - solid crabmeat with no filler (important for people who cannot have gluten). There has been a change, however, in the French fries. In the past, they were cut in uniform sized... More
