Diamond in the rough

Great food at a great price. Several friends and I went for lunch. This restaurant was recommended from one of the locals. I find when traveling always ask where the locals go...you will find the best places to eat. Service was friendly and very helpful. A must if in the El Paso area.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at this little corner in El Paso for our first visit to the L and J. We all agreed, it will not be our last visit. The food was absolutely the best Mexican food any of us had had for a very long time. Don't let the outside of the building steer you... More

Tacos, green and red enchiladas, burritos, flautas, all in one place. Old, historic and renewed. I personally like it much. If visiting El Paso is a must.

Had eaten at Kiki's the day before & was blown away by the quality of their food. Was hoping for the same here. The food was bland, the chicken waterey,& just boring. Had the green chicken enchilada & chili Relleno. Only finished it since I was hungry & it was money spent. The queso was to die for however. Just... More

This place doesn't look like much but the food sure is good! It has been owned by the same family since 1927, be sure to read the info on the menu. It is across the street from Concordia cemetery so be sure to walk thru there if you have time

What a great place for Mexican food! So much fun and such great food! We stayed too long, laughed too hard, and ate too much and everything was so good!!! The chips and salsa were a great start to our meal and the etree sizes were hugh! I don't remember all the details ;0) but we sure had a great... More

This place is a family owned historic icon of southwest style Mexican food; notice that I didn't say Tex-mex! It's the real deal with fair prices. I found the enchiladas - my favorite to be right on! I understand it has been going on here for generations in the center of town by the old cemetery. If you want authentic... More

L&J always has wonderful food & atmosphere. I had the chile verde plate. The meat was very tender. I think there could have been a little more chile on the plate, but it was still very good. Always crowded, but have never waited. Parking is the only negative.

When we visited the McGoffin house in El Paso our guide told us that the best Mexican food in El Paso was at the L & J Café so we decided to give it a try. At 2:30 in the afternoon it was packed with people. The food and the service were great.
