Description: The building at 50 Commerce pulses with history. Depression-era revelers snuck in it when it was a speakeasy. As the Blue Mill Tavern, it saw 50 years of change. And as Grange Hall, it captured the heart of Greenwich Village as a beloved gathering place. Now, as Commerce, a restaurant serving fine food prepared by chef Harold Moore, the building welcomes a slew of modern visitors seeking a warm place to share a meal and a sense of community. Owned by reputable restauranteur Tony Zazula and noted Chef Harold Moore, Commerce is homage to old New York, celebrating a city where history and contemporary sensibilities collide on every corner.

I can't remember the last time I ate out with friends and had 8 different dishes turn out to be delicious. This place was amazing- awesome menu (even the bread basket is a standout), friendly service, jovial atmosphere. It took us ages to decide on our order because everything just looked so good! Our friends are regulars, and we will... More

I took my family to Commerce recently for a birthday dinner. The place was packed. There was not a ton of room to negotiate. However the menu selection and quality of food easily mad up for it. The menu was inventive and fresh, the food lived up to the expectations and the price was right in line. I highly recommend... More

Our return to this neighbourhood restaurant after about two years and it is still very, very good. A real buzz and packed as usual. 'Best steak ever' comment from one of our group. Try the avocado toast for starters. Ask the sommellier for help as she is really helpful and our young waiter was enthusiastic and again explained everything so... More

We had a 8:45 reservation for dinner after seeing a show at the theater next door. Now consider that I made the reservation for 8:45 and the restaurant called to confirm that I would be there. We walked in to bedlam! The dining room was packed like a cattle car. We were told to have a drink at the bar-our... More

An interesting restaurant with a retro decor and feel. The 20 herbs & greens salad was great, lightly dressed so all the elements could be tasted. For the mains, the meatballs and the carbonara were both delicious, but the short rib ravioli was extremely salty. The coconut cake was delicious, light and full-flavoured at the same time (warning: one piece... More

Cozy on a cold night! Plenty of healthy and yummy options (try the avocado toast!) for all of party. Good wine selection and pretty decent serving staff. The best coconut cake really IS the best coconut cake... beware, serves a lot!

This a bustling little place in the West Village with a good bar, and tasty food. I ate here recently with friends and we had a good evening. It is not a place to linger over a meal! And it can be noisy but the hustle and the bustle is part of the attraction too. Bookings are essential and if... More

I made A reservation for a Thanksgiving dinner for four people. My husband, our daughter and I arrived exactly on time, but our friend was 10 minutes away from the restaurant when we asked to be seated. A rather terse maitre d' took us to a table for TWO people and told us it was a table for four (they... More

This was our fourth visit to this very trendy former speakeasy. Again we were not disappointed. The food is meant for sharing and the portions are abundant. We got hooked on the deviled eggs and the croquet madame from our previous visits and so did an encore...really good. We shared the main course which was short rib ravioli...not a few... More

Absolutely superbly crafted food. Starts with the variety of breads made in house and carries through all the courses. Only complaint is the noise, which can be deafening. The room is small and tables necessarily close together, so no fault of the restaurant.
