Need to tweak the front part of their service

we had reservations and when we got there we had to wait 35 minutes. When we finally asked how much longer we had to wait, they admitted they forgot us. bad start. we then went to a table where the waitress talked so fast we couldn't understand her so we had to ask her to slow down. I loved being able to pick a bunch of different meats and being charged by the weight. The mac and cheese and the baked beans were awesome.

I stopped in NYC (from Texas) on my way to London. I have seen really outstanding reviews for this place, one even quoting the BBQ editor of Texas Monthly saying this place could compete with Texas BBQ... Not quite sure that is the case but given this is New York, Hill Country BBQ is decent. Back home, my friends and... More

If you are from the Midwest or Texas, you are accustomed to BBQ "joints" where you go up to the counter, order your food, and carry it back to your table. THIS is Hill Country BBQ in NYC ! Truly the real thing! FOOD: excellent, true smoked BBQ. We had the brisket and it was truly excellent: smokey flavor, NOT... More

We've been here in a previous trip to NYC and liked the food, so we decided to return to try the "all you can eat dinner", advertised as available in the first Monday each month. After being seated, the manager told us that, despite it was the first Monday in December, the AYCE option was not available. No explanations. If... More

I came here with a mix of friends and co workers on Tuesday. We had a reservation for 9. The reservation was handled extremely well and they were very accommodating about seating us with one person short who was running late. The food is the main experience so let's get right into it. I went to the butcher and got... More

Very authentic BBQ. Order meats by the pound. They have excellent lean Beef Brisket and Sausages. Get your side at a separate counter. Mac and Cheese, Collar Greens, Chili (very good) Cole Slaw etc......... All very good. The have a full bar. Very casual.

Set up to order/receive food is unique, you had to go up to where they cut the meats and wait in line. BBQ scent in the air. This is the real deal. Had amazing recommendations from staff as a first time guest. Bartender was super helpful and energetic, and treated me to free dessert!

This was a very different barbeque place, where you ordered your food at the "meat desk", with a variety of ribs, brisket and other meat, and as much as you want of whatever. When you want more, you visit the desk again. The side orders were mainly vegetables and no potatoes of any kind was available. Drinks were ordered and... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
