Real (good) Texas barbecue in the Big Apple

Hard to believe this Texan could find worthy Texas barbecue in the Big Apple, but these guys know what they're doing. And they even truck in East Texas Post Oak for authenticity. No need for sauce with that complex smokey flavor. Ate at their booth in Herald Square, which is full of tasty food... read more

Best wings (chilli rubbed), short ribs and brisket I've ever had. Happy hour prices were great. So good we had to go back a second time.

Hard to believe this Texan could find worthy Texas barbecue in the Big Apple, but these guys know what they're doing. And they even truck in East Texas Post Oak for authenticity. No need for sauce with that complex smokey flavor. Ate at their booth in Herald Square, which is full of tasty food vendors and worth a visit.

First things first: the barbecue is all it's cracked up to be and more; moist, tasty, and plentiful. And the "bark" is definitely worth the "bite". For those who enjoy a drink and a meal at a bar, it won't disappoint. Unfortunately, $3.95 for two halves of one deviled egg, (do the math for the price of a dozen) even... More

A great experience and easy eating - although can get busy the format of take a plate to the counter makes it an enjoyable wait! The brisket was barbecued to perfection and some enjoyable sides washed down with local hooch out of a jam jar! We returned for second visit on day 5 of our holiday and had a repeat... More

This was my first visit to a real American BBQ joint. Sooo MUCH MEAT!!! I felt like I died and went to meat heaven. I was unable to sample all, but the highlight was definitely the brisket. The meat was fantastic, but the sides were a bit one note.

We ate here on a Thursday night in Manhattan. A great concept of meat by the weight for committed carnivores. All cooked to perfection. Service was attentive and the place was busy (always a good sign). This concept would be a slam dunk back in the UK. If you love ribs, brisket and the full BBQ experience, get along. You... More

Hill Country is an annual tradition for a group of my friends. With the way it is set up, it is easy for large parties. The moist brisket is excellent. Great sides as well.

Probably the best bbq in NYC. lovely. And good attention to allergies and to good service. You always get the most moist brisket there is at hill country. Just love the place, the meat, the sides - specially sweet potato mashed!

Ate here with a group of friends. The atmosphere was fantastic and the staff were really helpful, offering advice on what meats to choose and the quantity needed. The brownie dessert was the best I've ever had. The live band were superb and really capped off a great evening.

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
