Good Food

I've eaten here several times over the years, with a recent trip there. The sides are very good, I really enjoy the mac and cheese, along with the vegetables. The night I went, they had the "lunch" special, which was a bargain, with a nice size portion of beef brisket.

Eaten here at least a dozen times, never had a bad dish. Greatly enjoyed the Kreuz sausage and smoked chicken on this visit, along with the "best in class" mac and cheese.

While in the city with a friend, we decided we were in the mood for BBQ. Hill Country serves fall off the bone succulent barbecue chicken. They also have brisket and ribs which I'm sure are delicious too. Both of us ordered the chicken and some sides. The restaurant is very casual and you go up to the stations to... More

In a city filled with fine dining it's good to find a change of pace such as Hill Country. It's Texas style barbecue is a welcome sight for New Yorker's paletes. My wife and I both had the "talked about" brisket. The brisket was nicely smoked. I had end cut pieces with just enough fat for the meat to melt... More

Love the sides and the brisket! (Moist!) . Overpriced but still a nice experience-- love the brisket most. Slaw and black eyed peas side salads great! Everyone nice. Came back in a week's time.

For a real Texas barbecue experience, this is the place to go. But not great for vegetarians! Lots of good side dishes, though.

All I can say is WOW! A unique dining experience that has to be... well experienced. My brother Matthew took us to this place and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Amazing meats and the sides are outstanding too, especially the beans with burnt ends. Great service, beer in jars (a la Sunny in Philly) and a... More

Fantastic BBQ. Fairly authentic Texas style BBQ (I took a Texan with me, and he said the BBQ sauce was a little sweeter than he likes, but all-told, it was pretty spot-on in terms of authenic Texas BBQ). Not cheap. expect to spend about $30/per person (give or take).

I'll admit, I doubted that a New York eatery could serve up good barbecue, but Hill Country proved me wrong. The brisket had a great smoke ring and fantastic bark. Loved the spice and smokey flavor in every bite. The turkey was a bit dry but the flavor was great. I was very impressed by both. The mac n cheese... More

Staying in Flatiron District

Neighborhood Profile
Flatiron District
Offering many of the city’s best restaurants and shops set amid classic New York architecture, the Flatiron District is no longer under the tourist radar. At 23rd Street is the famous triangular Flatiron Building, which makes a good picture no matter what angle you photograph it from. Be sure to look up at the elegant architecture as you stroll the streets - much of this neighborhood is part of a historic district that was home to many of the city’s most famous department stores at the turn of the century. At the northern end of the neighborhood, Madison Square Park is best known for being home to a famous burger shack, but it can also be a quiet refuge to spend an afternoon, and it frequently hosts interesting public art exhibits. In the lower part of the Flatiron District you'll find Union Square, a bustling crossroads at all times of day and night.
