Background: Found this place googling places nearby Penn Station to meet up with my friends visiting from Australia. I figured it was an easy location for them to walk to. The atmosphere: A clear western theme, with benches as seats (and chairs) and bar stools to match. I was expecting peanut shells on the floor ( a la Texas Roadhouse... More

I thought the moist brisket was excellent. The pork ribs were very good. I wasn't a fan of the Kreuz Original sausage. It was moist but not very flavorful. I was given a sample of the beef shoulder. It was amazing. It's also big so I didn't order it. I need to go back with someone so we can share... More

If you have not tried Hill Country, you need too! The layout of the restaurant is pretty cool. You are given your own hand sized menu to order off of. As you order your food, the staff marks your card. The staff was great and very helpful in assisting how to order the food. We ordered the moist brisket, pork... More

Met friends for dinner, and the food is simple but so tasty. Love the ordering and serving system even though we missed the queuing bit, nobody seemed to mind. Oops! Waiting staff were attentive and friendly but not in your face. Will certainly go back if I find myself in new york again

Gotta tell you I'm not a barbecue fan since I'm not much of a meat eater. I had the turkey and it was really tender, tastey and great. I also had the mac and cheese which was really good, creamy and fresh tasting. The Green Bean Casserole is really good too, but I leaned toward the Mac & Cheese and... More

Personally, I thought the food was good. We ordered the moist brisket, a jalapeno cheese sausage, pork ribs, Texas black-eyed caviar, mac and cheese and cornbread. I'm definitely not a BBQ connoisseur, however, I’ve had better BBQ for my own taste. As others have mentioned, this place is a market style restaurant. I think the concept of ordering whatever you... Skip the ribs and go for the moist brisket, whole hog, smoked turkey and of course the hot links. Prepare for a meat coma to occur. Go across the street to Maysville for an after dinner bourbon.

I disn't want to go to a bbq place in ny, but my friend said that this place is great. We went here and we were disappointed with the food, not my cup do tea to have to line up for my food and bring it back to the table, cafeteria style. The food was ok, but we expected better.

The food is mediocre barbeque. It's basically a deli that serves barbeque that is very heavy with smoke for flavoring. You wait on yourself and then sit down and they will bring you drinks. They do have good happy hour drink prices and the bartender was really friendly.

Read a lot of prior reviews saying that this is the best BBQ in NYC. This may be true but I am not sure this says much. Skittles could be the best item from a vending machine, but that depends on what the machine is stocked with. That being said, I don't expect Texas quality BBQ anywhere in the NE,... More
