Small, a bit noisy and the food is great!

I got the last table in the restaurant without a wait at 6:15pm. I ordered fried catfish and waffles ($14.95) with sides of candied yams and collard greens. Each side dish was $4. The perfectly fried catfish was so hot i had to let it cool a bit before taking another bite. The collard greens were... read more

We came looking for well prepared comfort food and a taste of the neighbourhood. Melbas delivered on both counts. Good crispy fried chicken, tasty crab cakes. Staff were attentive and friendly, without going over the top. Recommended.

Mabel's is located in Harlem, New York. It's a very small and cozy place. We went on a Saturday at 11:30 and there was no wait. 15 minutes later there was a line waiting to get in. I got the chicken and waffles and my husband got the spinach omelette, home fries and bacon. It was pretty good. My chicken... More

We went for brunch and were pleased. food was excellent, but was above average. Service was friendly although somewhat spotty. Luckily, any server will help you, when yours becomes unavailable. Only real downside was isolated (I think) to our visit in that electricians were working on something and several times 1/2 of the restaurant filled with smoke (driving some of... More

After many attempt at dinning there, hard to find a seat, finally got to taste their Fried chicken. Stories goes that melba is a runaway from sylvia's kitchen in harlem, if that true, she did so with the best recipe for frying the bird. Crisp in the outside and moist inside, with a right dose of spices. Excellent. I order... More

Met a girlfriend for chicken and waffles on a Sunday morning at this sweet sunny corner. Great vibe, delicious food. You can go for a run afterward. Warm biscuits from the over. Warm welcome at the front door and from the kitchen. It's small so best for small parties. Solo diners can eat at the bar. The gentleman at the... More

We are here on our first night in New York City. We were staying nearby and thought we would try it. It is very popular so we had about a 20 minute wait for a table. We ordered the famous chicken and waffle. We are from Australia so this was our first taste of soul food. It was great although... More

food was good, hostess seemed disinterested (sitting at the bar, looking at her phone *Facebook?*)... wait staff was polite, and efficient. the restaurant is pretty small, so try to call ahead to see if there is a wait. overall, I would recommend this place.
